Ridgeview, a 5-star CMS rated Health Center, is hiring a Full-Time, salaried Nurse Staff Development Director / Infection Prevention Specialist! This is a Tuesday - Saturday schedule.
A current LVN or RN license in the state of CA is required as well as current certificate and training in Staff Development. GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director of Staff Development (DSD) plans and implements educational programs and infection control training in the health center per State and Federal guidelines. Management responsibility includes the hiring, scheduling, performance management, daily supervision in conjunction with the shift charge nurses, coaching and counseling of CNAs/RNAs for skilled nursing. The DSD conducts health center orientation and maintains the compliance of employee records per State and Federal requirements. Assures that nursing staff is aware of infection control policies and procedures, and those policies and procedures are consistently followed. Provides tracking and trending of Nosocomial and patients admitted with hospital acquired infections. PRINCIPLE DUTIES: Orientation & Continuing Education: Identifies, plans, implements, directs, and evaluates the orientation and educational programs within the facility based on identified patient and staff needs as well as State and Federal regulations. Provides the Administrator and department heads with a yearly outline of the facility educational programs planned, and monthly calendars of specific in-service programs scheduled. Supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing the provision of care by all nursing staff to ensure that quality resident care is consistently provided and maintained. Provides continuing education designed to improve and/or maintain skills of all nursing staff. Organizes a skills competency fair, at a minimum of once per year. Includes “STAR” values in orientation and serves as a role model. Utilizes leadership skills to promote a team spirit among the nursing staff and other facility personnel. Knowledgeable of all State and Federal regulations pertaining to skilled nursing facilities. Prepares the facility for successful surveys. Assists with developing, writing, and implementing policies and procedures in accordance with State and Federal guidelines and the facility’s standard of practice for resident care and nursing departmental duties and responsibilities. Participates in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs and ensures the programs are ongoing and provide accurate information for quality improvement. Train the LVN/RN in the role of Infection Prevention Designee. Report suspected and confirmed abuse as a mandated reporter. Maintains a current CMS 278A Nurse Assistant Orientation with CDPH. Maintains a current CMS 278B In service Training Program with CDPH. Submits and successfully receives approval of CMS 279 Instructor or Director of Staff Development Application with 90 days of employment CDPH unless deferred by CDPH. Infection Control: Serves as the facility’s “infection control preventionist.” Develops, organizes and coordinates the Infection Control program per State and Federal guidelines. Monitors potential hazards within the facility to prevent, identify, and control infection. Maintains surveillance reports on a weekly basis and tabulates information on a monthly basis. Implements and maintains an antibiotic stewardship program. Monitors antibiotic usage for appropriate utilization in accordance with “current clinical standards of practice.” Reports monthly to the facility Quality Assurance committee, and quarterly to the facility Infection Control committee. Implements plans of correction as needed. Assures that nursing staff is aware of infection control policies and procedures, and those policies and procedures are consistently followed. Provides education regarding infection control on a routine and as needed basis. Maintains open communication with Director of Nursing and reports any findings that need immediate attention. Communicates with facility staff, attending physicians, and outside consultants as necessary to assess and make recommendations to help improve resident care needs and assist with family concerns. Certified Nurse Assistant Leadership & Supervision: Functions as the Immediate Supervisor of Certified Nurse Assistants/Restorative Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Serves as a role model and champion for Core “STAR” Values. Consistently monitors the performance of the CNA’s, under the direction of the Director of Nursing and licensed charge nurses on each shift, to ensure provision of proper resident care while maintaining each resident’s individual rights for privacy, dignity and respect. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and posting work schedules. Prepares and conducts CNA performance evaluations based upon observed performance, input from licensed nursing staff, attendance, safety compliance, and other job-related factors. Works closely with Director of Nursing Services to assist with initial screening and application verification for all new applicants.
