The Private Equity business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management makes direct equity investments across North America and Europe in a broad range of industries, and we seek to maximize investment value through operational and financial value creation. Our goal is to achieve long-term capital appreciation by committing equity to high quality companies with strong management teams.
Vice Presidents in Private Equity work on small sector-focused teams responsible for the acquisition and management of investments. You will be involved in a wide range of high-profile transactions, which may include management buyouts, take-privates, add-on acquisitions, build ups, restructurings, recapitalizations, and dispositions.
This opportunity is with the Private Equity team's Financial Services vertical. The Financial Services team invests broadly across a wide range of sub-sectors, including financial software and services, payments, investment management, insurance and insurance services, specialty finance, and information and data services. The team is primarily focused on cash-flow / EBITDA-driven businesses, and most of the existing assets in the vertical have a traditional LBO profile; although the team is also experienced in investing in other financial services assets, including balance sheet businesses. The current team is lean and will expect the new hire to take responsibility across a wide range of sourcing, diligence, deal execution, and portfolio management workstreams.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for highly motivated candidates to be integrally involved in all aspects of private equity investing. The candidate will work directly with managing directors, vice presidents and associates as part of small teams that are responsible for the diligence, acquisition, structuring and management of investment opportunities. Examples of responsibilities include:
Researching and assessing potential investment opportunities
Leading development of industry-focused investing theses
Undertaking significant due diligence responsibilities and coordinating with third party diligence advisors
Quarterbacking the investment approval process, including input from junior team members
Reviewing and analyzing investment opportunities
Participating in the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of investments
Interacting with senior company executives and industry experts to support views and generate ideas
Building relationships with management teams and partners
Participating in the monitoring of new and existing investments
Supporting portfolio companies in strategic and operational projects including acquisitions, financings, asset sales, and capital allocation decisions
Providing mentorship and coaching to junior professionals
Qualifications:
In selecting candidates, we look for individuals who have a commitment to excellence, a demonstrated interest in investing, and strong skills in finance. Other specific skills include:
6+ years of experience across investment banking and private equity roles
Demonstrated experience in leading diligence workstreams
Ability to adapt quickly to a variety of industries and businesses
Ability to self-direct, evaluate new situations and form independent judgments
Investment acumen
Excellent communication and writing skills
Resourceful approach to problem-solving
Ability to interact and build relationships with a wide range of people
Top-tier teamwork and leadership skills
Attention to detail
Strong financial analysis / modeling experience
Salary Range The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$300000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
