Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Specialist - Rolling Stock to join a large rail program in Boston, MA. This would be a leadership role on the PMCM team supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects that represent a capital investment of over $5B, strategically aligned to modernize the oldest subway in America. Projects are in various stages including planning, studies, concept development, design and construction.
This position is specifically located at our downtown project office, working directly with the client in a dynamic environment. As a Senior specialist - rolling stock, you will be responsible for collaborating with other team disciplines and external departments to ensure new light rail rolling stock integration is addressed by providing rolling stock project management and technical expertise. The role also includes providing input and reviews of designs for maintenance facilities and yards based on operational needs. Other duties would be related to being the main point of contact on all vehicle related issues both working with the team and interfacing with external stakeholders, along with the production of various reporting and communications as support to the client as needed.
Responsibilities of this position will include, but may not be limited to:
Conduct and author research studies and briefings.
Developing and managing data models for vehicle maintenance and storage needs.
Providing input to and review of overall programmatic tools including portfolio execution plan for the packaging and sequencing of work scope and risk registers.
Working with infrastructure design teams to understand and account for the impacted needs related to the commissioning, operations and maintenance of vehicles.
Development of fleet management plans and transition of retired vehicles.
Monitoring the progress of projects and working with the client, designers/ consultants, and contractors to resolve critical technical issues.
Assessing that a quality process is implemented for any vehicle designs, rehabilitations, manufacturing, and testing & commissioning project phases.
Facilitate regular meetings, focus groups and workshops with client stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
Provide expertise in the preparation and production of contract documentation and client deliverables.
May need to take on Delivery Lead or Technical Lead roles on large vehicle or rail transit system related projects.
Through your project efforts and involvement in industry activities, developing and maintaining client relationships to help grow the business.
Candidate Specification:
The ideal candidate will have the following required experience:
A bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent combination of hands-on technical experience and education
8 years minimum previous experience as a rolling stock Project Manager
Effective oral and written communication skills
Producing technical specifications and report writing
Working with or for transit agencies in regard to operations, vehicle maintenance, asset management, second sourcing and bench test equipment
Manufacturing of transit rolling stock, preferably Light Rail, including design, validation, and commissioning
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
Ability to be flexible and work both autonomously and within a team
