STAFF ACCOUNTANT

JOB SUMMARY

Travis Hyde Properties is a local property management company that has been serving the Ithaca Community for 45 years. We maintain a friendly family atmosphere in our company. We all work for our tenants and strive to keep them happy. The Staff Accountant for our residential and commercial leasing portfolio, your primary responsibility is to manage the financial aspects of leasing operations for both residential and commercial properties. The Staff Accountant involves various accounting tasks, ensuring correct and prompt financial records, and supporting the Accounting Manager with financial analysis and reporting. The Staff Accountant will work closely with senior leadership as needed. The Staff Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Financial Record-Keeping

· Maintain correct and up-to-date financial records for all residential and commercial leases. This includes rent payments, security deposits, and any other financial transactions related to leasing activities and will include bank account reconciliations, escrow reconciliations, monthly journal entries, taxes (1099s), mortgage payments & commercial utilities and management of failed deposit corrections.

Accounts Payable

· Entering invoices into accounting software and contacting vendors as needed.

Rent Reconciliation

· Oversee the rent deposit process, including generating invoices or statements, tracking rent payments, and reconciling any discrepancies if necessary and security deposit process to include charges & refunds.

Expense Tracking and Analysis

· Track and analyze various expenses related to leasing operations, such as property maintenance costs, property taxes, insurance, and utilities. Prepare periodic reports and supply insights into management of cost control and optimization opportunities.

Auditing and Compliance

· Support internal and external audit related to leasing operations. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, lease agreements, and regulatory requirements.

Communication and Collaboration:

· Collaborate with the leasing team, property managers, and other stakeholders to address financial concerns, supply financial insights, and aid in lease negotiations or renewals. Effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Process Improvement

· Find opportunities to streamline and enhance leasing-related financial processes. Implement efficient systems, tools, or automation to improve accuracy, productivity, and data integrity.

Stay Updated:

· Keep abreast of industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes relevant to leasing operations. Continuously develop your knowledge and skills to improve the quality of financial services provided.

· And other tasks as assigned.

SCHEDULE

· Full-time (40 hours per week)

· 8-hour shifts

· Available weeknights and weekends as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A.A.S in Finance or Accounting or related field

· Minimum 1+ years of work experience

· Minimum 1+ years of accounting experience

· Advance proficiency in MS Excel and the entire MS suite

· Excellent communication skills

· Familiarity with Yardi Breeze (preferred)

· Must have reliable transportation.
