Job Summary: The Sr. CNC Tool Maker is a vital role within our manufacturing operations, combining the precision and craftsmanship of tool making with the technical expertise of CNC programming and process development. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role involves designing, fabricating, assembling, and repairing a diverse range of tools, dies, gages, and fixtures, with a particular focus on CNC machining processes. The Sr. CNC Tool Maker will lead efforts in creating new CNC programs, optimizing machining processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is crucial in supporting both production and experimental engineering initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety. Key Responsibilities: Tool and Die Fabrication: Design, fabricate, and repair tools, fixtures, molds, gages, and dies across a variety of projects, including production, development, and specialized engineering tasks. Interpret engineering blueprints, sketches, and directives accurately to ensure precise tool creation. Perform in-process inspections to ensure work conforms to blueprint specifications. CNC Programming and Machining: Develop and implement new machining processes to produce or improve parts on CNC equipment. Write, set up, and troubleshoot new CNC programs, ensuring efficient operation across multiple machine platforms, including Horizontal Mills, Vertical Mills, and Sub-Spindle Lathes. Review part prints to identify tooling and fixture needs, developing new fixtures or altering existing ones as necessary. Leadership and Continuous Improvement: Lead and mentor machinists and supervisors, providing training on CNC programming, setup, and operation. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in machining processes, driving these changes from concept to realization. Work with Design Engineering to resolve manufacturing issues and enhance the manufacturability of product designs. Assist in implementing and managing an effective machine data collection system. Safety and Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to company safety, health, and environmental standards, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Maintain general housekeeping standards within the immediate area of responsibility. Miscellaneous: Be flexible to work across various shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) as required. Perform related tasks as necessary to complete work assignments within the Tool Maker classification. May check and top off lubricants as necessary. May perform other duties as required. Requirements Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Possession of a Tool and Die Certificate with at least two years of experience in CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment operation, programming, and setup; OR five years' experience in similar capacities without a certificate. Extensive experience in machine programming, setup, and operation of both manual and CNC equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, 2D and 3D models, and CAD files, with experience in MasterCAM or equivalent for CNC programming and setup. Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers). Experience in fabricating prototype parts, fixtures, and gages to extremely close tolerances using all available manufacturing techniques and technologies. A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to present and implement positive change. Exceptional teamwork skills and proven leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Competence in Microsoft Office software and/or equivalent applications. Physical/Mental Essential Functions: Ability to stand for prolonged periods. Ability to lift/carry up to 70 pounds. Ability to control operation with hand or foot, and perform repetitive motions. Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted on the shop floor in a very fast-paced environment.
