The Staff Accountant maintains the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. Primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities: Promotes and practices the Empath mission and values and follows all policies and procedures of Empath Stratum Health System, Inc. and its affiliated companies. Ensures that all cash accounts are reviewed and all cash management entries are recorded and posted on a daily basis. Performs duties related to the recording and reconciliation of revenues and expenses. Prepares and records monthly journal entries and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations. Assists Senior Staff Accountants in all duties related to the recording and reconciliation of capital equipment items. Prepares and files State and County reports as assigned, including Florida State Sales Tax and Unclaimed Property, and Tangible Property Tax returns. Assists in the preparation and review of the annual budgets. Performs monthly budget/forecast to actual variance analysis and assists in providing explanations and follow-up for budget variances. Prepares month-end financial statements and other ad-hoc reports as assigned. Reviews accounts payable vouchers and other items as needed to support strong internal accounting controls. Prepares various month-end reports and provides support for the annual audit as assigned. Will be required to work a flexible schedule during busy times of year. Educational/Professional: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with Accounting concentration, or a related field. Minimum three years' experience in the Accounting field. Experience working in a not-for-profit or healthcare field is preferred. An equivalent combination of professional experience and education may be considered as meeting the educational/professional requirements. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Strong PC skills: Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel required. Proficiency with accounting software within 3 months post-hire. Keyboarding 30 wpm; accurate data entry skills. Previous experience working on computerized accounting software packages, i.e. Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains. Strong math aptitude and ability to work accurately with numbers. Detail oriented; good communication skills. Ability to maintain positive communications with supervisor regarding accounting-related needs. Efficiently coordinate multiple projects under the pressure of deadlines.
