Rail Vehicles Electrical Engineer

STV currently is seeking a suitably experienced rail vehicle system Electrical Engineer with experience in propulsion systems to join the Rail Vehicle Engineering group, at our New York City office. The primary responsibilities of this position include preparing propulsion engineering specifications and reports, evaluating proposed carbuilder designs on behalf of transit agencies, and evaluating drawings and test reports from various manufacturers. The Propulsion Engineer will report to the Chief of Propulsion Engineering. Candidate must reside in the US or Canada.
Responsibilities:
Preparation of equipment performance design criteria and engineering technical specifications.
Preparation and review of test specifications and reports.
Witness equipment and vehicle testing and First Article Inspections.
Review and evaluation of carbuilder and propulsion equipment supplier design packages.
Assist with preparing technical and cost proposals for new work.
Assist with preparing change orders for existing work.
Working knowledge of relevant industry standards: EN, IEC, UL, ANSI, APTA, IEEE etc.
Interface with railway clients and other departments within STV.
Qualifications: A minimum of 10 years of experience with propulsion systems in the transit/railroad industry, including experience designing rail vehicle propulsion systems or major subcomponents.
ABET accredited four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Strong familiarity with propulsion system components including AC traction motors, power converters, power transformers and other related high voltage electrical equipment, power collection equipment etc.
Familiarity with auxiliary power converters would be a strong advantage.
Valid Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineering (PE), or international equivalent is preferred.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with others, including multidisciplinary staff in different offices.
Proficient in preparation of clear, concise, and logical engineering documents in the English language.
Some travel will be required to attend factory tests, site commissioning tests, design reviews and other meetings. (Travel may be required approximately 25% of the time. Compensation Range: $119,959.00 - $159,945.00
