Wieland is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer Manager will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and exercising functional authority for planning, organization, leadership, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through direct/reports. This role is located in Lake Zurich, IL and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineer Manager Responsibilities:
- Highly involved in supporting, understanding and implementing pieces of the Morgan Management System (MMS) as it relates to engineering.
- Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.
- Creation of Engineering department goals and objectives.
- Investigate production procedural problems performing a Root Cause Analysis and recommend or implement corrective action. Lead both formal and informal training for production team members as it relates to process improvement, new methods, and usage of designed programs.
- Investigate new manufacturing technologies to improve methods, equipment and processes. Formally suggest recommended processes and alternatives to management by providing supporting data (e.g. return on investment)
- Review engineering changes for design changes, correct process drawings and routings for modifications and ensure implementation on production floor. Update WIS and routers, as needed.
- Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods.
- Review current and proposed manufacturing methods for conformance with ergonomic and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Responsible for department budget.
- Assists with planning and directing an efficient layout of equipment and flow of materials layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Mentors and assists non-technical associates through moderately to complex tasks.
- Working knowledge of Quality analytics tools including but not limited to SPC, FMEA, PFMEA preferred.
- Will interact with production support operators, team leaders, and shift supervisors to provide standard problem solving and process troubleshooting support.
- Assists with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Confers with suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies.
- Sets performance for improvement expectations and develops training needs and expectations.
- Complete performance reviews in a timely manner.
- Management has the responsibility to support and take accountability for the QEMS through the promotion of risk based thinking, communication, promoting continual improvement in all areas and shall be customer focused.

- Support other management team members to provide leadership, strategy, direction and support as it applies to their areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that the quality management system achieves its intended results
- Engage, support, direct, supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the quality management system.
- Utilizes and promotes the process approach through PDCA Methodology.
- Assure that resources needed for the quality management system are available.
- Maintains a focus on enhancing customer satisfaction through understanding and meeting of requirements and any risks or opportunities that can affect conformity or satisfaction are addresses.
Manufacturing Engineer Manager Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's preferred
- Prior manufacturing experience in a job shop required
- Minimum of 5 years prior set up experience with programming and troubleshooting knowledge -or- a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering with 2 years in a CNC apprenticeship program
- Courses and experience in AUTOCAD, Solidworks, other CAD software. CAM experience required.
- 8+ years of experience required
- Strong communication, training and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
- Strong trigonometry and mathematics knowledge
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
- Ability to successfully perform Root Cause Analysis
- Strong problem solving
- Must have strong CNC lathe and mill set up experience
- Advance knowledge of CNC machine tools and controls
- Strong knowledge of speeds and feeds for various alloys
- Advanced blueprint reading
- Advanced understanding of GD&T
- CAD/CAM experience (Solidworks)
- Proper measuring techniques with a variety of gages
- Knowledge of ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials
- Project management experience leading teams through a project to completion
