The Project Manager, Operational Excellence, provides strategic direction and leadership for capital projects and site initiatives. This role focuses on optimizing processes through human and machine efficiency, ensuring cost-effective configurations. The Project Manager collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Supply Chain functions to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Process Support:

Ensure robust process capability and address areas of excess variation.

Implement World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives to enhance process capability, reduce costs, and shorten product cycle times.

Develop and present improvement ideas, project concepts, and plans, ensuring successful execution and returns.

Lead key initiatives and projects to drive sustainable competitive advantages, sales, and profit growth.

Conduct strategic planning to align business needs with site activities, including CAPEX justification.

Organizational Structure:

Collaborate with external consultants and suppliers.

Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams.

Oversee Project Engineering, including capital investment projects, machine design improvements, installations, and process development.

Principal End Results:

Provide technical leadership to maximize operational efficiency.

Ensure seamless implementation of new capital projects and improvement initiatives.

Maintain a competitive cost position through Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and Project Engineering.

Essential Functions:

Manufacturing Engineering:

Lead efforts to ensure process capability exceeds product specifications.

Develop monitoring systems to verify process capability and maintenance management effectiveness.

Partner with teams to develop and monitor a business process management system.

Lead major improvement projects and ensure benefits are realized.

Minimize product life cycle costs by driving product and process design and coordinating Product and Process FMEA.

Develop floor layout plans and process flow charts.

Perform measurement gaps analysis and Measurement System analysis.

Drive preventive maintenance and conditions management through visual management and quality control systems.

Continuous Improvement:

Own the Value Stream Map and involve the team in identifying time delays and non-value-adding activities.

Lead process improvement teams to reduce setup time, cycle time, OEE improvement, process flow improvement, and other cost reduction or revenue enhancement initiatives.

Act as a change agent to instill a Lean manufacturing culture.

Support the creation of a learning organization that integrates lessons from the past to drive continuous improvement.

Utilize WCM (Lean & Six-Sigma) tools to reduce costs through targeted team-based improvement events.

Project Engineering:

Identify, develop, and manage major projects for repairs, energy savings, and capital expenditure.

Create project cost estimates and administer project budgets.

Design and develop new manufacturing equipment processes and modify existing ones.

Organize design, fabrication, and installation schedules for new systems.

Ensure manufacturing systems meet technical specifications and performance levels.

Maintain facility regulatory compliance obligations for operating permits and regular reporting.

Develop plans to meet strategic manufacturing objectives and participate in business planning.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline (Required)

Master’s Degree with a thorough understanding of business (Preferred)

Work Experience:

8+ years of applied engineering experience (Required)

Broad background in engineering disciplines related to Capex/project management, manufacturing process improvements, maintenance, procurement, and services (Required)

Awareness of new technologies and innovations (Required)

Other Knowledge and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge and experience in manufacturing philosophies, operations, processes, and related technologies (Required)

Proven record of success in a manufacturing organization (Required)

Outstanding communication and presentation skills (Required)

Driven, inquisitive, and hands-on problem-solving traits (Required)

Experience with financial concepts: Cash Flow, Capital Management, and Budgeting (Required)

Proficient in SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other applicable software (Required)
