We are a leading general contractor in North New Jersey specializing in heavy highway construction projects, including roadways, bridges, and infrastructure. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality, large-scale public and private projects, we are seeking an experienced Civil Estimator with a background in heavy highway construction to join our team.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for heavy highway projects, including roads, bridges, culverts, drainage systems, and other infrastructure.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Review and interpret contract documents, project plans, and scopes of work to identify potential cost impacts or changes in project scope.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local market conditions, labor rates, and material costs to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals for public and private sector projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines, permits, and regulations.
  • Track and manage changes in project scope or design that could impact costs or timelines.
  • Assist in developing project schedules and budgets during the preconstruction phase.
  • Ensure all estimates consider safety, quality, and regulatory compliance factors.
  • Participate in project meetings and offer expertise regarding cost analysis and feasibility.

Profile

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Civil Estimator with a focus on heavy highway and infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, utilities, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of the unique aspects of heavy highway construction, including roadwork, drainage, bridges, and paving.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., HCSS, ProEst, or similar programs).
  • Experience with local, state, and federal bid processes and regulations related to heavy highway work.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus.
