Description
Supports the manufacturing engineering team in planning, coordinating, and improving manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods and processes. Note: Methods and processes include manual machinery, CNC machinery, assembly, product testing, powder paint, wet paint, material storage and handling, shipping and receiving, plant and office processes and procedures.
- Contributes value added input in fixture and tooling designs to be used with machines in the manufacturing process, including programming cnc equipment and robotic welders.
- Provides support with inspection and quality related tasks to the shop floor as well as assists other machinists in resolving quality issues, including using the CMM or other inspection equipment when required.
- Confers with manufacturing department, engineers, production personnel, lead persons, supervisors, or others to resolve machining, assembly, or other manufacturing problems.
- Assists in the machine setup of new parts and in the proveout of new cnc programs on CNC machines, manual equipment, and secondary processes as necessary to meet production requirements.
- Analyzes work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow; evaluates layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Recommend product design changes to improve manufacturability.
- Consults with the manufacturing engineering team and vendors to arrange the purchase of tools and equipment.
- Assists in the evaluation and qualification of vendors.
- Estimates production times for routings and to provide information for management decisions.
- Responsible for safety and quality throughout production
- Responsible for notifying a Production Lead or Supervisor when they step off the line to ensure safety and quality standards are maintained.
- Reports all production waste/issues to Production Lead or Supervisor
- Performs other duties as required by Supervisor or Manager
- Follows all company policies and procedures.
- Associate degree from an accredited college in manufacturing technology or engineering; or equivalent combination of education and on the job experience.
- MUST have CNC Machining experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Experience and skill in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Familiar with AutoCAD and/or ProEngineer. General knowledge of business software (MRP based systems such as MAPICS). Able to use the Internet to perform basic research.
- Familiar with programming and tooling concepts as they apply to manual and CNC machinery. Able to interpret drawings and use the measuring devices needed to determine product conformance to design specifications. Able to secure the documents needed to travel outside the United States.
