Job Summary

The CDL Driver for our Hauppauge, NY facility is an hourly paid union employee. This position involves transporting glass and/or metal products to local and out-of-state customers with company-assigned vehicles; either flatbeds or straight trucks with the possibility of layovers. Job Responsibilities:

  • Transport products and other materials to and from facilities and customer locations.
  • Load/unload glass and/or metal products, load securement, and complete daily pre and post-trip of vehicles.
  • Responsible for multiple deliveries and customer service inquiries.
  • Unloading could include handling loose, crated, and racked glass, metal, associated products, and operating boom cranes.
  • Safely operate forklifts, cranes, pallet jacks, and other various equipment
  • Operate handheld scanners and electronic logging devices to maintain accurate records.
  • Setting up and covering various routes and/or cover will call areas for customer pick-ups.
  • Contacting customers to inform them about shipping status.
  • Assisting with intercompany delivering, loading, and unloading.
  • Assist with additional warehouse duties.
  • Perform other assignments as required by management.
Job Highlights
  • Starting wage $25-27/hour

Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public as well as law enforcement, to understand traffic signals, signs, and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. At least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence to operate the type of equipment the applicant will be driving.
  • At least two (2) years of verifiable, incident-free driving experience in the last five (5) years
  • Ability to determine whether transported cargo is properly located, distributed, and secured on the vehicle. Is familiar with methods and procedures for securing cargo in or on the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).
  • By reason of experience, training, or both safely operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)
  • Basic computer familiarity
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment background screening including drug/alcohol test
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) as dictated in the company standards document.
  • Read and perform mathematical calculations and measurements with numbers, fractions, and decimals normally acquired through high school education or equivalency.
  • Basic spatial recognition and use of tape measure
  • Ability to work OT as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (Monday to Friday and Saturday as needed)

  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements
  • Work inside a non-climate-controlled production environment
  • Ability to stand on your feet for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Withstand moderate to high noise levels.
  • Plant facilities are subject to the same climate conditions as the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.)
  • Excellent ability to lift/carry more than 50 pounds frequently. Frequent standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.
