Overview Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Director of Information Systems, performs complex computer systems and computer network analysis work. Work involves activities associated with a local or wide area network and network servers. Work also includes monitoring; analysis of existing hardware and software. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May, on occasion, assign, and/or supervise the work of others and/or provide functional guidance to one or more technical staff members. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Communicates with visitors, fellow employees, medical staff and guests in a positive and professional manner. Keeps supervisor and co-workers informed. Researches and analyzes computerized and networked system and methods and recommends those best suited for enhancing the productivity and efficiency of DMH operations. Determines specific system configuration and sizing requirements, addressing server, network and client considerations. Coordinates the planning, design, and deployment of new installations and enhancements and the implementation of disaster/recovery procedures. Maintains complete and accurate documentation. Utilizes IS Helpdesk software application. Accountable for performing the installation, operation, and maintenance of local, WLAN, and WAN network implementations, including firewall operation and maintenance. Installing, wiring, configuring, and testing of network equipment and personal computers, work stations and peripheral hardware, including the installation and management of network servers. Installs and supports client/server applications relative to the HIS. Meets with users to determine quality of service. Efficient in completing user requests. Ensures the smooth integrity of the network with minimal interruption to the end user. Provides effective computer system support by diagnosing and solving network or server operating malfunctions in a timely manner. Implements active directory, system security, and backup measures for the networks, servers, and related data. Ensures backup procedures are carried out on a scheduled basis. Trains/mentors other less-experienced staff; conducts informal education of end users on network operations and applications; promotes use of standard operating practices. Reports to the hospital, according to departmental procedure on responding to call, if the problem cannot be solved in a remote manner. Orders necessary equipment upon approval of the IS Director. Completes special projects as requested by the IS Director. Qualifications Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Demonstrates technical knowledge and abilities with: • Computer hardware and software, local and wide area networking, software design and development, equipment assembly and installation; • Installing, operating, adapting, diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in computer and network equipment and software; • Oral and written communication; • Record and interpret information accurately; • Handle multiple duties simultaneously; • Use common sense, independent learning, and technical information to solve problems. Education: Requires college training equivalent to a B.S. in Computer Science or related degree or; extensive on the job training with applicable vendor based classes and/or certifications. Experience: One to two years experience in a directly related role. Previous experience in a healthcare setting highly desirable.
