Summary:

  • Process Design: Develops efficient processes for manufacturing medical and aerospace components according to customer purchase order requirements, encompassing primary and secondary operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Industry Research: Investigates emerging industry methodologies to ensure the latest technologies are applied to fabricate orthopedic implants and instruments.
  • CNC Programming and Setup: Develops or modifies CNC programs, designs fixtures, and creates setup sheets. Determines holding techniques, speeds, feeds, and tooling specifications, verifying programs prior to production release.
  • Machine Support: Assists with machine setup and operation until the first production lot is completed and approved.
  • Tool Management: Identifies necessary special tooling and ensures timely ordering to support production needs.
  • Documentation: Prepares product and process specifications along with other internal documentation.
  • Multi-Platform Proficiency: Works toward expertise in programming, operating, and setting up various machining platforms.
  • Tool Life Optimization: Manages tool life effectively to support extended unattended machine operations.
  • Project Management: Applies effective project management practices, including scheduling and leading meetings with documented minutes and action plans.
  • Mentorship: Guides less experienced manufacturing engineers and production staff.
  • Change Control: Prepares and reviews engineering change requests, oversees document changes, and implements engineering change notices.
  • Contract Reviews: Participates in contract reviews, identifies drawing inconsistencies, and suggests design modifications to enhance manufacturability.
  • Process Improvement: Engages in new job assessments and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) sessions, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Workplace Maintenance: Keeps work areas and equipment clean and organized.
  • Safety Compliance: Follows company safety protocols.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensures all tasks comply with Seabrook Quality System procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience required.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • CNC Expertise: Proficiency with two or more CNC machines, including EDM RAM, EDM Wire, Lathe, Mill, Mill-Turn, and Swiss.
  • 3D CAD: Skilled in 3D CAD software.
  • CAM Programming: Experienced in CAM programming.
  • Inspection Tools: Familiar with calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and height gauges for dimensional inspections.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mathematical abilities and computer proficiency, including MS Office and internet navigation.
  • Blueprint Reading: Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Analytical Skills: Demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication in both written and verbal forms.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
  • Team Collaboration: Contributes effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Light to moderate physical activity required.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, reach, and move throughout the facility.
