A law firm seeks a highly skilled and motivated Life Sciences Patent Associate to join its Chicago office. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a patent attorney with experience in life sciences to work on a range of matters, including patent prosecution, portfolio management, and litigation support for prominent pharmaceutical, biosimilars, and ag-bio clients. The successful candidate will be part of a nationally recognized team focused on Hatch-Waxman litigation, handling some of the most high-profile cases in the industry.
Duties
Lead and manage patent prosecution efforts in the life sciences space, specifically for pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and agricultural biotechnology. Provide strategic counsel on patent portfolio management, advising clients on the development and protection of their intellectual property. Draft and deliver patent opinions, including freedom-to-operate, patentability, and infringement assessments. Assist in litigation efforts, including Hatch-Waxman cases and other complex life sciences matters. Collaborate closely with clients, internal teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to devise and implement IP strategies. Stay abreast of emerging trends in patent law, life sciences innovations, and industry regulations. Requirements
At least 3 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on life sciences or related fields. Strong background in patent prosecution, portfolio management, and providing legal counsel in the life sciences industry. Experience with Hatch-Waxman litigation or similar high-profile patent litigation is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in an accessible manner. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. USPTO registration is required. Education
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline is required. Certifications
