A law firm seeks an experienced and motivated Life Science Patent Agent to join its Chicago office. This role offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team on complex matters in the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution, particularly within pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio, along with a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field. This position also involves assisting with patent counseling, portfolio management, and supporting litigation efforts. It’s an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile cases in the life sciences sector. Duties:

Manage patent prosecution in life science fields, including pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and natural products. Assist attorneys with patent counseling, including developing strategies for patent portfolios. Conduct portfolio analysis and provide patent opinions on various issues, such as patentability and freedom to operate. Support post-grant proceedings, including inter partes reviews and reexaminations. Contribute to litigation support, including gathering evidence and preparing materials for patent disputes. Work closely with attorneys and other professionals to provide comprehensive legal services to clients in the life sciences industry. Requirements:

At least 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly within life sciences (e.g., pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, ag-bio). Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field. Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Proven experience in patent counseling, portfolio analysis, and patent opinion work. Strong understanding of post-grant proceedings and litigation support. Ability to work well under pressure, managing multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Education:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field. Certifications:

USPTO registration (Required). Skills:

Strong analytical, research, and writing abilities. Proficiency in patent law, with a focus on life sciences. Ability to handle complex patent prosecution and portfolio management tasks. Strong team-oriented approach, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
