Purpose The Director of Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for leading the development and execution of the institutions strategic marketing and communications plan to enhance visibility, support enrollment efforts, and strengthen the institution's brand. The Director oversees public relations, media outreach, digital marketing, and community engagement initiatives. This role requires collaboration with academic and administrative departments to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with institutional goals. The Director will collaborate closely with executive leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners to execute campaigns that promote the University's programs, services, and mission. Duties & Responsibilities Marketing Strategy & Branding: Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing strategy that supports institutional goals related to student recruitment, retention, and philanthropy & engagement. Oversee the creation and management of branding initiatives, ensuring consistency in all materials and platforms. Analyze and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, making data-driven decisions to optimize performance. Public Relations & Media Relations: Serve as the institutions primary media contact, developing relationships with local, national, and higher education media outlets. Coordinate press releases, media events, and public statements to promote institutional achievements and milestones. Act as a spokesperson when necessary, representing the institution in interviews, public appearances, and at key events. Digital Marketing & Content Creation: Oversee digital marketing initiatives, including website content, social media strategies, email marketing, and online advertising. Work with internal teams to generate compelling content (e.g., blogs, videos, graphics) that resonates with target audiences such as prospective students, philanthropy & engagement, and community partners. Monitor digital engagement metrics and make recommendations for improvements. Internal & External Communications: Lead the development of communication plans for major institutional events, crises, and initiatives. Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., admissions, development, academic affairs) to ensure messaging is aligned across all communications platforms. Coordinate crisis communication responses, ensuring timely and appropriate messaging during emergencies or sensitive situations. Leadership & Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of marketing and public relations professionals, setting clear goals and expectations. Manage relationships with external vendors and partners, such as advertising agencies, freelance designers, and media consultants. Oversee departmental budgeting and resource allocation to ensure efficient use of marketing resources. Community Engagement: Build partnerships with local and regional organizations to enhance the institutions community presence. Lead the planning and execution of community events, ensuring positive representation of the institution. Other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience Required Education: Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Public relations, or a related field (Masters preferred). Required Experience: Over seven years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably within higher education or a similar field (preferred). Strong understanding of branding, digital marketing, and public relations strategies. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Experience managing a team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Competency: Experience working with CRM systems, analytics tools, and content management systems.
