SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant of General Accounting is responsible for various month-end close activities specific to the General Accounting department as well as other areas within JOANN. These responsibilities include journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations used to support internal and external financial results. This position is responsible for the creation of fixed assets as part of our Capital spend process, including the validation of capital vs expense and that proper approvals have been obtained for the spend. In addition, this role will review for appropriate asset disposals and support any account reconciliations as part of fixed assets.

This Staff Accountant requires frequent interaction with the Financial Planning & Analysis departments (Corporate, Store & Supply Chain) as well as other business areas in the Company. This position takes a support role in the system administration function for the Financial Close & Consolidation System (FCCS) and Account Reconciliation Module within the Oracle EPM platform and the SAP Fixed Asset and General Ledger system.

JOB DUTIES
  • Financial Close Process (monthly, quarterly, and yearly):
    • Prepares journal entries, including prepaids, accruals and other adjustments, as well as performs numerous key account reconciliations.
    • Assists in the overall monitoring and completion of required account reconciliations for all accounting departments.
  • Capital Spend Management:
    • Assists in the daily monitoring, creation and tracking of capital expenditures and asset creation.
    • In addition, reviews the appropriate accounting for IT related spend to ensure projects are captured as cloud-based computing vs capital.
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Performs a detailed review of various accounts, including IT cloud-based computing, fixed assets, various prepaid and accrual accounts as well as other miscellaneous G/L accounts.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Provides support for various areas of accounting to ensure all Internal Control requirements are being met on a monthly basis.
  • System Administration and Internal Controls:
    • Serves as part of the System Administrator function for the Financial Close & Consolidation module (FCCS) and the Account Reconciliation module within Oracle EPM as well as for the Fixed Asset and General Ledger of SAP.
  • Process Improvements and Special Projects:
    • Perform system testing (SAP & Oracle EPM) and supports key accounting projects, including various process improvement initiatives through-out the Accounting Organization.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

Experience Minimum: 0-2 years' experience within the Accounting and/or Finance field

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This role requires in-person attendance 4 days a week at the Store Support Center (SSC) located in Hudson, OH. Flexibility to work remotely when requested is determined by management and business needs.
  • Sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods while maintaining focus and productivity.
  • Move around an office space and between buildings on a large campus, including reaching for files, retail product, supplies, or equipment, as well as the ability to adapt to various workstation setups.
  • Work standard business hours and extended hours as needed based on task and project demands.
  • Utilization of all communication styles - written, verbal, electronic options.
  • Lift and carry office supplies, documents, retail product or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed for tasks such as organizing or setting up workstations.
