Job Description:

SUMMARY

Responsible for reconciling various accounts andprojections of financial information and completing other special projects asneeded.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Provides all levels of management with useful and accurate financial information on a timely basis via verbal communication or written documentation
  • Performs quantitative analysis to assist management in reviewing/resolving business issues and improving overall accuracy/efficiency
  • Assists with the preparation and/or presentation of documentation for annual audit and any internal or external audits, reviews and site visits
  • Partners with College stakeholders to understand their underlying business practices to ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and that business activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close, including a monthly review and analysis of assigned College funds and general ledger accounts
  • Identifies and resolves any issues or reconciling items related to general ledger balance sheet accounts
  • Inputs and maintains appropriate information in the Banner accounting system module and other business systems in the department and recommends and/or assists with implementation of enhancements and conversions
  • Prepares support schedules and other analyses as needed for year-end audit purposes
  • Tracks and reconciles activity with external partners, including bookstore
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries to accounts, such as accruals, corrections, charge backs, redistributions and other standard entries
  • Analyzes spending associated with Federal Financial Aid and submits reimbursement requests to the Department of Education
  • Identifies and resolves any issues or reconciling items related in assigned restricted funds, including following up on related receivables and payables
  • Reviews unrestricted funds, as well as high-level reviews of all College funds
  • Participates in training with regard to College policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education
  • Minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in financial and/or management analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations

  • Possess basic knowledge of fundamental GAAP concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant (or candidate for either)
  • Demonstrated experience with the Banner System (or equivalent program)
  • Demonstrated accounting experience in higher education, fund accounting, and/or externally funded projects
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in financial and/or management analysis and reporting

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
