Role: Technical Business Analyst Fixed Income, Structured Debt
Location - Lake Mary, FL or Pittsburgh, PA
Job Description
- Financial Knowledge & Product Understanding
- Fixed Income Markets: Good understanding of fixed income securities such as bonds, treasury bills, and related instruments (e.g., coupon payments, yield curves, interest rate risk).
- Structured Products: Understanding & knowledge of structured debt products, including:
- Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS)
- Asset-Backed Securities (ABS)
- Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs)
- Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs)
- Securitization and Tranches: Understanding of how securities are structured into different tranches with varying levels of seniority and risk.
- Cashflow Modeling: Knowledge of cashflow structures, waterfall mechanisms, and payment hierarchies for different types of structured products.
- Risk Metrics: Familiarity with metrics like duration, convexity, spread analysis, and credit risk measures (e.g., default probability, credit spreads).
2. Technical Skills
- Data Analysis & SQL: Ability to query, manipulate, and analyze large datasets using SQL. Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and data management tools.
- Excel & Financial Modelling: Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling techniques (e.g., bond pricing, yield curve calculations, cash flow projections). Ability to use macros (VBA) for automation.
- Business Intelligence (BI) Tools: Experience using BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView for reporting and visualization of financial data and portfolio metrics.
- Risk Management Systems: Familiarity with systems used to manage financial risk (e.g., Bloomberg, RiskMetrics, MSCI Barra) and their integration into the business process.
3. Business Analysis Skills
- Requirement Gathering: Ability to work closely with stakeholders (traders, portfolio managers, compliance officers, and risk managers) to gather, document, and prioritize business requirements for systems supporting structured debt products.
- Functional Specifications: Translate business requirements into functional specifications and user stories that guide system development or enhancement.
- Process Mapping & Improvement: Experience mapping business processes (e.g., trade lifecycle, settlement, risk management) and identifying opportunities for automation or efficiency improvements.
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Experience in developing test plans, creating test cases, and performing UAT to ensure system enhancements meet business needs and are functioning correctly.
4. Financial Systems & Software Proficiency
- Trading Systems: Knowledge of trading platforms and execution systems (e.g., Bloomberg AIM, TradeWeb, MarketAxess) used to execute fixed income and structured debt transactions.
- Portfolio Management Systems: Familiarity with portfolio management platforms such as Charles River, BlackRock Aladdin, or similar tools used for risk analytics, performance attribution, and portfolio monitoring.
- Pricing & Valuation Tools: Understanding of tools used for the pricing and valuation of structured products (e.g., Bloomberg, Numerix, RiskWatch).
- Risk and Compliance Software: Exposure to risk management software like Calypso, Murex, or OpenLink used for credit, market, and operational risk management.
- Data Integration & ETL Tools: Knowledge of data integration tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend) for aggregating and transforming data from various sources.
5. Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge
- Regulatory Frameworks: Understanding of regulatory requirements impacting fixed income and structured debt products, such as:
- Dodd-Frank Act
- MiFID II
- Basel III
- Solvency II
- Compliance Reporting: Experience with the implementation of regulatory reports (e.g., risk-weighted assets, capital adequacy) and ensuring systems meet legal requirements.
- Audit & Controls: Familiarity with audit processes and internal controls to ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and regulations.
6. Project Management & Methodologies
- Project Management Tools: Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Confluence, or MS Project for tracking requirements, tasks, and timelines.
- Agile / Scrum Methodologies: Experience working within Agile or Scrum frameworks, particularly in the context of financial technology projects (e.g., working with cross-functional teams, sprint planning, backlog grooming).
- Change Management: Ability to manage changes to existing systems, including coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring proper documentation, and mitigating risks related to system changes.
7. Soft Skills
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders and vice versa. This includes writing clear documentation, delivering presentations, and facilitating discussions.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams, including business users, developers, and IT teams, to achieve project goals.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to system performance, data integrity, and financial modeling.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to catch errors in data processing or system functionality that could have significant financial implications.
8. Industry Awareness & Market Knowledge
- Market Trends: Awareness of macroeconomic factors influencing fixed income markets, such as interest rate movements, inflation, credit spreads, and central bank policies.
- Product Innovation: Knowledge of evolving structured finance products, such as synthetic CDOs, CLOs, and new forms of securitization.
- Current Affairs: Staying informed about global economic conditions and regulatory changes that impact fixed income and structured finance markets.
