Job Description
Summary
Conducts detailed reviews of all types of new and existing loans, primarily complex transactions and relationships within the commercial portfolio. Analyzes credit, evaluates collateral and guarantor support, and assesses documentation. Ensures individual credits are adequately underwritten, properly graded, and conform to the Bank’s lending policies. Identifies and reports on trends and risks within the Bank’s loan portfolio. Assists in the preparation of Board credit risk management reports and portfolio stress testing.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessments
- Performs independent, comprehensive assessments of complex credits to evaluate underwriting and credit quality within the Bank’s commercial loan portfolio.
- Analyzes the financial condition of the borrower, repayment capacity, collateral value, credit and appraisals.
- Tests for compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and federal regulations.
- Reviews documentation of loans to ensure all required information is complete and accurate.
- Validates the accuracy of existing commercial loan grades in accordance with the metrics outlined in the Bank’s loan grade system.
- Reports findings to the Director Credit Risk Review.
- Analyzes existing and emerging risk trends within portfolios based on review findings, provides suggestions for improvement
Quality Control and Leadership
- Coordinates sample selection activities and allocating assignments between internal and external resources with the Director Credit Risk Review. Assumes the responsibilities of the Director Credit Risk Review in his/her absence.
- Evaluates the loan review work papers prepared by more junior level Credit Risk Review staff for accuracy, prior to their dissemination to loan officers and senior management.
- Leads, trains and mentors more junior level staff.
- Assesses work of third party loan review consultants to verify accuracy of reports and to ensure compliance with the Internal Asset Review Policy and Credit Risk Review procedures.
Reporting and Analytics
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports documentation/condition exceptions based on quarterly review findings.
- Prepares and distributes the monthly documentation/condition exception report. Oversees the resolution of outstanding items via communication with members of retail and commercial lending department staff.
- In conjunction with the Director Credit Risk Review, prepares board level credit risk management reports, including, but not limited to concentration, policy exception, and stress testing.
- Supports other areas of risk management with credit related analysis.
Compliance and Due Diligence
- Remains current with industry regulations, market conditions, and Bank policies, procedures, and lending product offerings to ensure compliance throughout the underwriting and credit administration process and to assess risk in credit transactions.
- Participates in due diligence activities of potential acquisitions as required.
Other Responsibilities

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business Management;
- 6+ years of relevant work experience in the Commercial Credit Underwriting, Portfolio Management, Loan Review or bank regulatory experience with an emphasis on commercial credits or applicable experience;
- Knowledge of commercial lending practices and procedures with a strong focus on Commercial and Industrial Lending. Understanding of consumer and residential mortgage lending a plus;
- Well-developed commercial credit analytic skills supported by formal credit and cash flow training. Formal credit training preferred;
- Ability to lead, train and mentor junior level analysts within the department;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong people and time management skills
