Job Description
Technicians are the backbone of ECC's industrial services. Junior Technicians provide essential support in various environmental and industrial management activities in adherence with safety program requirements, training, regulations, standard operating procedures, project plans, and general industry standards. This position involves the safe and efficient handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and other materials, maintaining and cleaning industrial systems, conducting spill clean-up, and general warehouse and industrial operations. Junior Technicians work closely with technicians and environmental professionals at all levels to ensure compliance with regulations, promote environmental safety, and contribute to efficient waste management practices. This entry-level position includes Technicians with 0-5 years' experience. It provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the environmental services industry.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to safety program requirements during all activities, ensuring personal safety and the safety of others as priority one.
- Complete Activity Hazard Analysis and/or review Hazard Analysis Plans prior to commencement of any task as applicable.
- Assist in the collection, handling, consolidation, containerization, loading, unloading, inspection, labeling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials in compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
- Segregate different types of waste/materials to prevent contamination/reaction and package them securely for proper storage and transportation.
- Perform physical and technical labor associated with industrial operations.
- Support the maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of industrial systems, which may include Oil-Water Separators (OWS), grease traps, and other environmental control equipment.
- Participate in spill response activities, including containing and cleaning up spills to prevent environmental contamination.
- Assist in collecting waste and environmental samples, such as waste, water, soil, and air.
- Support warehouse organization and maintenance of materials and equipment, ensuring proper inventory management.
- Maintain the cleanliness and housekeeping of facilities and worksites, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
- Utilize and maintain powered and non-powered tools and material handling equipment: forklifts, pumps, dollies, drum crushers, impact guns, hand tools, etc.
- Enter confined spaces to clean and maintain tanks, vacuum trucks, tankers, OWS, and other associated systems.
- Operate light and heavy equipment such as vehicles, vacuum trucks, plow vehicles, forklifts, skid steer, lift gates, pumps, and other equipment in a safe responsible manner and in compliance with personal license/training limitations.
- Perform routine pre/post-use inspections and minor preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Accurately document and record data from waste management, environmental sampling, spill responses, and maintenance activities, including completion of job reports.
- Perform duties at various regional locations and facilities with occasional travel beyond the local area.
- Participate in training programs to enhance associated technical skills and knowledge.
- Provide excellent customer service and client relations, always representing ECC and self in a professional manner.
- Work closely with other internal and external team members to achieve operational goals and maintain a high level of environmental safety while always treating others in a respectful and kind manner.
- Follow established ECC policies and program requirements.
- Follow direction of leadership, supervision, and those appointed over you.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Safety oriented mind-set with determination to follow procedures and policies at all times.
- Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
- 0-5 years' experience in industrial services; environmental waste management, related industrial services, etc.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher as applicable.
- Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record (Commercial Driver's License with Hazmat endorsement preferred).
- Pass pre-employment drug test including recreational and medicinal marijuana.
- Pass all associated background checks for access to government facilities and military installations.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures and safety protocols accurately.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow/provide clear oral and written instruction.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime or weekend work.
- Have a positive attitude, Integrity, and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the industrial and environmental services field.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, crawl, climb, kneel, reach, bend over, and use hands to hold objects for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments: severe weather conditions, extreme temperatures, sun, rain, ice, snow, wind, humidity, etc.
- Ability to wear PPE including respirator, hearing protection, hardhats, safety glasses/goggles, face shields, safety towed footwear, chemical suits, nitrile gloves, leather gloves, and other PPE as required.
- Ability to pass occupational and DOT physicals.
- Ability to see with visual acuteness.
- Ability to work in high and low noise environments wearing appropriate hearing protection as applicable.
- Ability to work at heights above 6 feet and using fall protection devices when applicable.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to tolerate foul odors (grease trap, sludge, etc.).
- Ability to use powered and non-powered hand tools and equipment (shovels, picks, hammers, impact drivers, etc.).
- Ability to work safely with, near, and around moving mechanical equipment.
- Ability to lift 40lbs unassisted.
- Ability to move drums and containers up to 800lbs by manual and mechanical means.
- Ability to travel by various means (ground, air, water) to various job sites; ability to drive a motorized vehicle.
- Ability to work in environments with low lighting when necessary or due to seasonal conditions.
- Fieldwork may require walking or hiking over icy, wet, or uneven terrain, through forests, wetlands, and other natural landscapes; ability to safely work on and navigate slick surfaces such as ice, snow, and wet conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Physical tasks such as digging, soil sampling, setting up and operating equipment, and assisting with spill clean-up can require physical strength and stamina.
