The BioGen Center, comprising the departments of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics (BMBB), is seeking a Finance Professional 2 to manage the financial operations of sponsored and non-sponsored accounts throughout their lifecycle, from post-award to close-out. This role will involve overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliation, effort certification, financial record maintenance, problem resolution, and compliance with university policies and funding agency requirements. This position will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the BioGen Center and ensuring compliance with both University of Minnesota policies and funding agency requirements.

40% Financial Management of Projects: Serve as the financial manager for the life of a project, from award to closure. Assist the pre-award team in establishing grant budgets. Determine appropriate payroll percentages for labor charging and effort certification. Generate financial reports, including income and expense forecasts. Meet regularly with administrators, principal investigators, and other stakeholders to review financial status. Resolve accounting issues with principal investigators and close grant years, fiscal years, and projects. Monitor accounts receivable.

25% Audit and Approvals: Audit and approve financial purchasing and adjusting transactions on all projects assigned. Provide guidance to departmental staff on expenditure requirements and policy. Coordinate the quarterly effort certification process and work with faculty to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely reporting.

20% Forecasting and Analysis: Work with faculty and management to develop financial plans. Generate ad hoc and standard reports incorporating accruals and projections.

10% Chart of Accounts and Budgeting: Manage the Chart of Accounts, including requesting activation of revenue/expense chart strings and combo codes for payroll. Assist in the annual budget preparation and entry for all assigned divisions.

5% Staff Meetings and Special Projects: Participate in weekly staff meetings to discuss current issues and updates. Serve as the center expert on assigned policies. Participate in University-wide projects and help improve local business processes. Attend University financial training and conferences. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) with at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of related work and education experience to equal six years Experience in financial analysis, creating and maintaining finance reports, and budgeting. Strong organizational and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with financial and managerial staff. High attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Successful experience working with senior management and principal investigators. Experience with federal granting agencies, including budgeting and managing both pre-award and post-award financial processes. About the Department

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:
