Maintains, repairs, and installs pool equipment, circulating pumps, valves, pool filters, filter systems, chlorine and chemical injection systems. Coordinates and provides work direction to apprentice plumber. Essential DutiesEnsures compliance with applicable Uniform Plumbing Codes regarding plumbing installation, service, and repair activities. Receives work orders, prioritizes assignments, coordinates equipment, tools, materials, and supplies to minimize disruption in routine activities. Initiates purchase orders for required materials, supplies and equipment. Maintains daily activity logs and maintenance records on assigned equipment. Performs calculations to prepare material and work sites for installation, maintenance or repair, such as pipe dimensions, line layout, trench and line grading, angles and distances. Inspects and repairs leaks, obstructions, and general system and equipment failures. Installs, maintains, and repairs potable water systems such as faucets, flushometers, drinking fountains, ice machines, pipes, valves, and pumps; water waste systems such as toilets, urinals, strainers, traps, cleanouts, and interceptors; natural gas systems such as flex lines and heaters. Inspects and repairs worn out or loose fixtures and potential gas leaks. Inspects and repairs hot water supply systems installing a variety of fixtures used to provide hot potable water including water heaters and boilers. Services or replaces components, switches, mechanical seals in pumps, traps, hose bibs, backflow devices, screens, lines, filters, r/o units, ice machines, furnaces, and a/c units. Communicates with other departments and staff regarding plumbing activities and problems; provides technical information as required. Responds to emergencies to confine, resolve, and/or prevent flooding or other hazardous conditions. Fulfills on-call duties as scheduled.Assists City of Hobbs crews as needed. Operates and maintains a variety of specialized power and hand tools, heavy equipment and plumbing equipment. Cleans and maintains assigned equipment and vehicles. Minimum QualificationsThis position is subject to the City of Hobbs' Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required, with two (2) years journey-level compensated plumbing experience.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in plumbing installation, alteration, and repair work.Working knowledge of pumps and pumping systems, and the maintenance and repair of such equipment.Knowledge of chlorine and chemical injection systems and handling, filter equipment and filtering systems, including knowledge of the maintenance and repair of such systems.Knowledge of plumbing systems, gas pipefitting, air conditioning, and heating systems.Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Codes.Knowledge of installation, repair and maintenance of pressure reducing/sustaining valves, backflow prevention valves, and altitude control valves.Knowledge of water and sewer systems.Ability to plan and lay out plumbing work.Ability to work from sketches, diagrams, blueprints, plans and specifications.Ability to sweat weld pipe joints.Ability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays.Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage. Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs. Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD. CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable). PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21. Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test. Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position). Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased. Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service 13 Paid Holidays. Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
