Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year Grade HH General Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled trades helper level work in the repair, modification, maintenance and installation of new and existing plumbing systems (water/sewer/steam/gas); including pipefitting and steam fitting. Education and Experience Requires a high school diploma, some college level course work and graduation from an accredited apprenticeship plumbing and pipefitting program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Also requires at least one year of customer service experience. Requires a Journey Plumber License DPOR Va., Journeyman Gas Fitter License Va., Backflow Prevention Tester License (City). Level 2 PSI Natural Gas Certificate. Requires a valid driver's license. Essential Job Functions Oversees and participates in the work of a small group of employees engaged in determining defects, repairing, installing and maintaining piping and drainage systems for water, sewer, steam or natural gas. Responsibility for troubleshooting, testing, repairing, maintaining, and modifying commercial plumbing, pipefitting and steam-fitting systems and equipment. Cuts and threads pipes to ensure proper connections. Installs, repairs and replaces valves (gas, relief and thermo) and related controls, traps, plumbing fixtures, holding units, etc. Must be able to plan and perform work of the trade at the full master's level. Replaces cooling and dual temperature pumps. Responsible for repairing and replacing heaters (up to 80 gallons). Repairs swimming pool and irrigation piping systems; installs, tests and repairs cross-connection and backflow control devices. Ensures proper maintenance of hand and power tools, such as pipe threaders and cutters, electric sewer routers, ejector pump machines, augers, water jet sewer machines, gas leak detectors, acetylene welding torches, backflow testers, multi-meters, temperature sensors and various drills and dies and other plumbing and pipefitting equipment. Requires the ability to perform well under emergency repair. Requires the ability to adapt to constantly changing priority work situations. Responsible for skilled use of tools, equipment, and materials pertinent to the trade. Ensures safety of the work area. Uses ladders and scaffolding. Works under the general supervision of a Senior Coordinator of Student Support Services. Performs other duties as assigned.
