Job Description
Electra is actively recruiting an experienced Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to lead the design and development of avionics and low voltage electrical systems for our 9-passenger eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing), hybrid-electric aircraft. This position focuses on design, prototyping, integration, and testing and as such is based in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
We are seeking a candidate with the following experience and skills:
Location: Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration this position is 3-4 days in the office, with some virtual work allowed.
Travel: <25%
Salary: Electra's salary range for this position is: $81,250.00 - 181,250.00
Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Description
Electra is actively recruiting an experienced Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to lead the design and development of avionics and low voltage electrical systems for our 9-passenger eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing), hybrid-electric aircraft. This position focuses on design, prototyping, integration, and testing and as such is based in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Lead the design, analysis, integration and testing of avionics (indicating and recording, guidance and navigation, cockpit systems, communications) and low voltage electrical systems (electrical power, lighting, air vehicle wiring).
- Support evaluation, selection and oversight of suppliers for avionics and electrical equipment.
- Understand program objectives and requirements to conduct trade studies and define architectures, requirements, and interfaces between systems.
- Develop and manage requirements for the avionics and electrical systems and equipment, compatible with the program-level safety, performance, certification, and business objectives.
- Prepare and present gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design.
- Provide hands-on support for avionics and electrical system integration and test activities.
- Collaborate with program management, other IPTs, and functional groups to accomplish team goals.
- Other Duties as assigned.
We are seeking a candidate with the following experience and skills:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace, or a related field; and 6+ years of experience in relevant discipline areas or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
- Experience in the development of aerospace avionics systems and low voltage electrical systems.
- Understanding of design standards and verification methods (analysis and test) for the development of aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
- Proficient with general-purpose test and build equipment/tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, soldering iron).
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described in the responsibilities and essential functions.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt well to change.
- Master's or PhD degree in relevant engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards.
- Experience with implementing and troubleshooting digital communications architectures (i.e. RS422, CAN, Ethernet, and ARINC429).
- Experience with grounding schemes for large and complex electrical systems.
- Private pilot license.
- US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred.
