The Opportunity This position works out of our Sturgis, MI location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You'll Work On The primary function is to provide 24-hour, 7-day a week "skilled trade" maintenance support to the manufacturing, warehouse, and office facilities that make up the Sturgis, MI facility. They will inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain facility, production and equipment system piping.Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, knowledge of system operation, and study of building plans / working drawingsPlanning sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and cutting pipeThreading and ending pipe by hand or with pipe bending machineAssembling and joining piping by means of threaded, chalked, wiped, soldered, brazed fused, or cemented jointsSecuring pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, hangers, using hand toolsTest, inspect, replace piping and pressure relief devices on production and facility equipmentCoordinate scheduled work with customers and service providersPerform building walk-throughs to identify needed repairs and follow up with corrective actionCheck, test and replace steam traps as necessaryMaintain facility to ensure reliable and effective operationInstall valves and other plumbing fixtures in restroomsMust have knowledge of underground, sewer lines, draining systemYou'll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma / GEDJourneyman or Master PlumberPreferred QualificationsASSE certification for backflow testing and repairIn compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
