The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for installs, repairs, and replacement of sheet metal components of aircraft, including various structural assemblies and sub-assemblies. Sheet Metal Mechanics fabricate replacement parts and perform complex structural repairs to meet aircraft specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient in reading and understanding aircraft repair manuals, blueprints, and engineering documents.
- Properly handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety guidelines.
- Knowledgeable in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) quality inspection standards, ensuring all work meets guidelines and specifications.
- Plan, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts and equipment, utilizing knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques.
- Select appropriate gauge and type of sheet metal, such as stainless steel, steel, aluminum, or nonmetallic materials like plastics or fiberglass, based on product specifications.
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using tools such as scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop patterns.
- Perform maintenance tasks, including equipment repair and shop cleaning.
- Record component removals in the log, attach identification tags, and complete routing tags for repairable parts when removing components from the aircraft.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, directing efforts to protect employees and maintain a safe work environment.
- Minimum 2 years sheet metal experience
- Knowledge of Aviation industry a plus
