Tesla is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its Infrastructure Design Advancement Team. In this role, you will work with discipline leads and team members to develop innovative and efficient design solutions for manufacturing and workplace facilities, while defining the Basis of Design, implement lessons learned, and create new standards for future projects. Typical scope may include retrofitting or modifying existing buildings, designing new buildings or new additions. This full-time role supports projects across multiple Tesla locations.
Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders from various teams including Development, R&D, Product Design, Manufacturing, Construction, and Operations to understand, assess, aggregate, and summarize the site wide project requirements
- Perform feasibility and techno-economic studies on structural approaches and solutions to support leadership's decision making and meet aggressive budget goals on capital and mission critical projects
- Collaborate with various design teams to define project requirements and deliver exceptional and unique design solutions focusing on the preliminary and design development phases
- Prepare drawings, perform calculations, review construction/procurement documents and specifications for structural systems of various sizes and complexity
- Support the estimators preparing cost estimates to different levels of accuracy such as rough order of magnitude (ROM), project funding and construction ready
- Collaborate with the structural design teams producing deliverables for Permit and Construction, including structural plans, sections, details, schedules, layouts etc
- Interface with external design consultants during bid and project execution as needed to ensure that design and specifications meet the project requirements
- Participate effectively during drawing approval meetings and inspections with local authority officials and attend tests and special inspections to confirm compliance with the applicable codes and standards
- Participate to on-site construction activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution
- Ability to scrutinize status quo design development and provide novel alternatives to external & internal designs
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years' work experience in large commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities such as manufacturing, data centers, hospitals and college campuses
- At least two $50M+ projects, preferably with experience on both "owner" and "contractor" side Registered as a certified Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred but not required
- Advanced knowledge of structural engineering design principles and applicable codes, design guides and standards related to the discipline
- Must prioritize and manage heavy workload on multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity
- Ability to developed structural deliverables, identify technical and financial risks, and provide corrections to mitigate these risks
- Collaborating with other discipline leaders to develop and improve project workflows and standards to ensure that each deliverable is fully coordinated
- Ability to communicate clearly and interface with Senior Designers and Design Managers
- Ability to scrutinize status quo design development and provide innovative alternatives to industry standard design solutions
- Must be able to prioritize and manage heavy workload on multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity

$112,000 - $222,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
