General Description
ONE CURRENT VACANCY
Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical maintenance and repair work in the maintenance of facilities and related equipment and systems for the Public Works Department. Work involves electrical installation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings, facilities, street lights, and traffic signals managed by the Public Works Department. Team led by Electrician III. Reports to the Chief Electrician.
Duties of Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs building maintenance such as installing new fixtures; replacing bulbs and ballasts; replacing outlets; resetting breakers; checking air conditioning, etc.
Performs construction site work such demolishing and remodeling new and old electrical sites, installing electrical pipes, etc.
Assists the Traffic Signal Technician in the performance of traffic signal maintenance such as troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, programming, maintaining traffic signal cabinets, etc.
Troubleshoots overhead and underground electrical work; installs new heads; rebuilds and repairs streetlights.
Maintains, installs, and repairs generators.
Provides assistance with special events such as setting up events, building equipment for correct operation, monitoring operations, etc.
Examines job locations for correct method of work and necessary materials.
Records completed work order tickets with description, time, materials, and work completed.
Maintains shop and truck inventory, assists in ordering supplies, stocks shelves, pulls materials for jobs, etc.
Performs after hour call outs on a rotating basis and as needed for emergencies or special events.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as memorandums, work orders, emails, etc.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders, daily logs, minutes of meetings, truck checklist, and traffic signal response forms.
Refers to underground street light system, maps, wiring schematics, technical drawings, National Electric Code, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, instructions, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications, reference texts, websites, etc.
Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pickup truck, bucket/boom truck, excavator, heavy equipment, fault locator, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, nut driver set, wrench set, cordless drill, hole saw set, knock out set, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as wire, junction boxes and covers, duplex receptacles, switches, light bulbs, electrical panels, traffic lights, general office supplies, etc.
Uses a variety of standard office tools, office supplies, and computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet, work order tracking system, email, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Chief Electrician, Electrician I and III, Public Works and City employees, contractors, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma, GED, HiSet, or equivalency certificate supplemented by two or more years of electrical maintenance and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana Class "D" chauffer's license.

RETIREMENT SYSTEM: The City of Kenner's regular full time employees are enrolled with the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Louisiana. Both the City of Kenner and the employee contribute the required percent to the system. The employee's contributions are kept on account and will be refunded, if the employees leaves employment before they are retirement eligible.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: The City of Kenner currently participates in a 457 Plan with MassMutual. This is a voluntary investment program that the employees are allowed to participate in at a contribution rate of their choice (must be within the designated maximum and minimum limits, as set for by Plan Document). The City of Kenner does not contribute to the 457 Plan.
HOLIDAYS: Sixteen paid official holidays are observed, plus any other holidays which may be declared by the Mayor.
