The Recovery Specialist (RS) provides guidance and direction to residents and oversees resident activities in Family Supportive Housing in accordance with program policies. The RS will participate in ensuring the day-to-day operations of the program to support the culture of recovery and is both trauma and gender informed. The RS will interact with the resident and their child(ren) while also taking part in daily scheduled activities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Candidates with CADC/LADC certification(s) and/or experience working with homeless individuals and families with substance disorders and/or experience in a residential treatment setting is preferred. Candidates that have a demonstrated capacity to support people in early recovery from substance use disorders is preferred. Candidates identifying as being in recovery from SUD, one year of continuous sobriety is required. The candidate must have excellent oral, written, and social skills and be able to demonstrate cultural competency. The candidate must possess computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
Supervision Given: No Supervision given.
Supervision Received: The Recovery Specialist is supervised by the FSH Program Director.
Schedule: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Various Days
Responsibilities and Duties:
- The RS directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of the living environment, coordinates on-site activities, and will assist residents with life skills and cooperative living at the Family Supportive House.
- The RS is responsible for daily monitoring of residents prescribed medication(s), refills, and disposal of discontinued medication(s). Also, the RC will observe and document residents’ daily medication intake on individual resident’s medication sheet. For children under 18, the RS will observe the resident parent administer the child’s medication.
- The RS will be responsible for appropriate oversight of the program that includes safety issues, assurance of a drug and alcohol-free environment, and 24/7 availability for emergencies.
- The RS performs resident headcounts and wellness checks on all floors of facility and surrounding property.
- The RS monitor resident activity and physical plant conditions to ensure safety of residents, children, and coworkers.
- The RS will know and enforce the requirements and procedures for reporting suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 119, Section 51A.
- The RS facilitates therapeutic groups using established curricula and create progress notes detailing attendance and participation of individuals.
- The RS will prepare typed and/or legibly written reports as required and document relevant information in shift change logs.
- The RS will transport residents, as necessary.
- The RS will participate in the regularly scheduled staff meetings and monthly in-service trainings.
- The RS will represent GAAMHA/FSH/Greenwich House in the community and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and professional standards of the agency.
- The RS will adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies governing the disclosure of client identifying information and confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
