Position Type: Trades/Skilled Trades/Plumber Date Posted: 8/9/2024 Location: Facilities Services Date Available: 08/09/2024 Closing Date: Until Filled Job Title: Plumber Reports To: Lead Plumber FLSA Status: Non-exempt SUMMARY: Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe. Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors. Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Cuts and threads pipe. Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, copper, and lead; and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Lead Plumber or MEP Specialist SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 1 to 4 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable procedures. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of five years experience in the plumbing trade. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to read and understand plumbing diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possess current journeyman's or master's license and current driver's license.
