To support our recent and continued growth, we are looking for a new Controller to oversee and optimize our Accounting and Finance functions and contribute to our continued success. We are a tight-knit group, so your soft skills will be just as essential as your technical skills to be successful in the role.
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller will play an integral role in managing the company's financial health, managing and developing banking relationships, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic growth initiatives. This hands-on position requires a professional leader with experience in the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end closing.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and manage budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts to support company growth.
- Project Management: Starting and closing projects, forecasting, job costing, WIP reporting, and change orders.
- Job Costing: Ensure accurate job costing and project profitability tracking, providing regular reporting to management and project teams.
- Compliance & Reporting: Maintain compliance with GAAP and industry regulations, prepare financial statements, and manage external audits.
- Process Improvement: Implement and improve financial systems, controls, and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering professional development and a collaborative work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership to provide insights and recommendations that drive financial performance and strategic decision-making.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or leadership accounting role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Sage 300, or Procore) and advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, and construction-specific financial reporting.
