We are Secure Community Network (SCN), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) serving as the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. We are hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our team and oversee the Finance, Technical Services (IT), Human Resources, and Office Administration functions.
The COO will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the strategic and efficient implementation of our financial operations, information technology, and administrative functions. With 8-10 years of experience in a similar role, the COO will bring a wealth of expertise to guide and support our program-related investments. Reporting directly to the National Director / CEO, they will serve as a vital member of the SCN Executive Leadership Team, actively participating in daily management decisions and representing the organization as needed.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in senior-level operations and finance management, coupled with adeptness in communicating key efforts to stakeholders, including the board of directors, to provide strategic guidance and support across all administrative aspects.
In this capacity, the COO will lead and collaborate with various teams, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary resources to excel in their roles. Exceptional professional judgment will be paramount as the COO engages with stakeholders from diverse sectors, including professionals in law enforcement, intelligence, and emergency management. Their ability to develop and execute comprehensive plans and strategies will shape the future of our organization, facilitating its growth and continued impact.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Act as a member of the SCN Executive Leadership Team representing the National Director and organization as required, active in daily management decisions
- Lead and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, insurance, tax, and annual audit activities
- Develop and implement the annual organizational budget, closely monitoring expenses, and forecasting growth strategies and business planning
- Provide expert guidance on all finance functions, including budgeting, forecasting, business analysis, as well as sustainability and growth strategies
- Manage and optimize operational structures in office administration, human resources, finance, and technical services to enhance efficiency, maintain internal controls, and ensure compliance
- Oversee technical services and information technology functions, providing strategic direction regarding infrastructure, systems, and cybersecurity considerations across the organization.
- Review and optimize contracts and agreements in collaboration with the General Counsel to drive scalability and effectiveness
- Oversee implementation of a comprehensive human resources plan, fostering team member growth and effecting organizational development strategies and initiatives
- Supervise and mentor professional teams, establish department KPIs, and implement recruitment, training, performance management, professional development, and capacity-building efforts for relevant staff
- Cultivate a culture of innovation to align operational performance with our mission
- Ensure clarity and adherence to department-specific goals, policies, and procedures among all direct reports
- Ensure overall interoperability and cross-functionality with other components of the organization
- Undertake other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in business administration or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years in senior-level operations and finance management, including experience managing organizational and administrative functions
- Prior experience as a Chief Operating Officer is preferred
- Strong leadership skills with a successful track record of effectively mentoring, supervising, and leading direct reports while assessing their performance
- Demonstrated ability to maintain the utmost integrity in handling confidential efforts and documents
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Success working in a collaborative environment
- Ability to work in a dynamic, challenging, and fast-paced environment
- Ability to make independent and accurate decisions with tact and diplomacy
- Comprehensive knowledge of operational planning, policies, protocols, and procedures
- Exceptional professional judgment in dealing with entities from all sectors and other professionals in law enforcement, intelligence, and emergency management communities
- Proven ability to design, develop, and execute strategic plans and initiatives that drive organizational success
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite
