BIT consists of five divisions - Administration, Data Centers, Development, Telecommunications, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting - which serve the State of South Dakota by providing technology solutions, services, and support. The Cybersecurity Analyst is a key position within the security division.

The Bureau of Information and Telecommunications seeks a full-time, permanent Cybersecurity Analyst. Under general supervision, this role involves various tasks requiring problem-solving, data review, and analysis. The Cybersecurity Analyst will be responsible for the analyzing and developing of systems security integration, testing, operations, and maintenance.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Security Monitoring: Review security logs for threats, anomalies, intrusions, and abnormal connection behavior.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate, report, and escalate issues to cybersecurity staff and management as required.
  • Incident Response: Participate in incident response, computer forensics, data preservation, and investigations related to network breaches or unauthorized data access.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Support regular and special reporting, including reports of vulnerabilities, risks, control deficiencies, remediation strategies, and performance metrics.
  • Technology Configuration: Configure and test security-related technologies.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and correct security and data-related problems.
  • System Maintenance: Maintain, monitor, and modify security tools, systems, and processes according to standard and department policies and procedures, automating where feasible using programming languages such as Python and PowerShell.
  • Cybersecurity Assessments: Perform cybersecurity assessments on networks, workstations, and applications as required.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Preferred qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree or a certification in a cybersecurity-related field. Experience in cybersecurity is also a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • proficiency in security administration and management;
  • strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • knowledge of cybersecurity standard frameworks, controls, technologies, and solutions;
  • expertise in incident response management.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
