License: Current license as a registered pharmacist in Alaska Certifications: - Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Must-Have: - Influenza vaccination - Pharm.D. degree or equivalent qualification (with experience, if applicable) Job Description: - Ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy while achieving optimal outcomes in medication use. - Prepare and distribute medications according to legal standards and provide patient counseling and education. - Advise medical, nursing, and village staff on drug therapy, and select and maintain the appropriate drug inventory. - Participate in quality improvement activities impacting patient healthcare. - Exercise independent professional judgment in dispensing prescriptions, evaluating them for safety and appropriateness. - Consult prescribers for alternative therapies when necessary. - Provide patient counseling to enhance medication compliance and decrease morbidity. - Perform Drug Utilization Evaluations, impacting patient care, educating medical staff, and potentially reducing costs. - Formulate policies and procedures impacting department operations. - Review prescriptions for therapy appropriateness, legality, and screenings for contraindications or interactions. - Provide clinical consultations, resolve prescription concerns, and document clinical activities accurately. - Enter prescriptions into pharmacy software and verify orders timely while maintaining documentation. - Focus on independent working, organizing, and prioritizing tasks to ensure timely pharmacy services. - Educate patients about their medications, including drug names, usage, and expected changes, ensuring their understanding. - Perform chart reviews for refills and medication management, writing recommendations and refill requests. - Offer drug information, therapy consultations, and staff education on drug therapy. - Direct pharmacy support staff and act as a role model for pharmacy students and technicians. - Participate in clinical and administrative activities, ensuring medication availability and control. - Conduct health promotion and disease prevention activities relating to drug use. - Highly efficient in reviewing patient medical histories using in-depth pharmaceutical knowledge. - Familiarity with state and federal laws governing pharmacy practice. - Provide age-appropriate care to patients. - Exhibit strong communication skills with patients and staff, both orally and in writing. - Proficient in computer applications and mathematical calculations for dosing and compounding. - Ability to work collaboratively, handle interruptions, adapt to workload changes, and respond swiftly to emergencies. This position demands proficiency in providing comprehensive pharmacy services while ensuring optimal health outcomes in patients.
