Qualifications:

College hours for

Title I campus

48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test

College hours, high school diploma or GED for

Non-Title I campus

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Ability to work with children with disabilities

Ability to follow verbal and written instruction

Ability to communicate effectively

Knowledge of general office equipment

Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Primary Purpose:

Clerical, instructional and student-care duties as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides. Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities. Assist in carrying out the instructional program. Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection. Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment. Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills. Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting. Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning. Attend professional meetings as required. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning. Other SHARS Duties as assigned. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, copier, printer, voice output devices, playground equipment and motor lab equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students.May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
