SUMMARY

Responsible for developing and implementing production/processing methods and controls in accordance with quality standards in the most cost-effective manner. Evaluates and solves problems as they occur and recommends and implements improvements to the production process. Works with operations to assure that they comply with established quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs methods for maintaining or increasing production/processing levels and implements improvements to increase production and process capability, reduce production costs, and improve quality while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Plans and performs development projects for materials and mechanical improvements as assigned. Develops objectives, project criteria and budgets. Initiates and evaluates actions to meet agreed objectives and criteria.
  • Troubleshoots process and equipment problems and identifies solutions which reduce downtime and conserve maintenance costs.
  • Evaluates existing processes, suggests measures for improvement, and configures manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, boost productivity, quality, and profitability, and develop best practices within the production process.
  • Participates in installation, troubleshooting, failure investigations, and corrective action of material, process, and mechanical problems; monitors process equipment to identify potential errors and develops solutions to eliminate the reoccurrence of those problems.
  • Implements programs to introduce and qualify new materials, products, processes, and/or equipment in the plant and with our customers. Originates test packs and leads acceptance tests and evaluations through various lab services.
  • Maintains an awareness of technical progress in materials, supports areas, and production equipment. Initiates technical meetings to review problems and seek improvements.
  • Assists in reviewing quality assurance policies to be implemented in a new facility, including procedures and equipment with the aim of standardizing wherever possible. Prepares cost estimates and submittals for process and improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and updates process procedures to ensure that documentation is accurate and understandable.
  • Determines the test methods, procedures, parts, and equipment needed to implement engineering changes.
  • Assesses safety requirements and ensures that these are integrated into the process; maintains reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers.
  • Participates in project implementation, installation, check-out, tune-up, and start-up of new equipment or production lines.
  • Participates in audits, upgrades, and recommends improvements, rebuild, and troubleshooting of existing equipment.
  • Interacts with the engineering and operations groups and plant staff on manufacturing-related matters, tooling and quality engineers and manufacturing technicians to gather information and provide guidance for implementation.
  • Participates in defining specifications for equipment, materials, and processes to support manufacturing or marketing needs.
  • Maintains awareness and complies with all environmental management requirements.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles and practices, high-speed manufacturing processes, quality systems, material science or laboratory environment preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification is a plus. FE/EIT certificate may be required.
  • Proficient in Project Management.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering projects of a complex nature.
  • Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
  • Ability to make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.
