Description Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Project Kuiper team is looking for a Technical Program Manager with experience in satellite communication test definition, execution and verification. Key job responsibilities * Collaborate with engineering leaders to track project test plans for hardware and software through the entire development life cycle requirements to development to validation in an Agile development environment. * Work with product/program management to ensure that Kuiper test systems meet schedule, technical, and quality requirements. * Drive engineering project execution, define milestones for deliverables of hardware / software, define tests, execute tests, triage test failures, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues. * Define cross-functional deliverables and timeline to ensure test readiness is achieved on-schedule. * Act as the cross-functional point of contact for Kuiper test plans, procedures, and execution for testing of satellite Avionics and payload hardware. * Work with external teams to identify and mitigate programmatic risks in meeting shared goals. * Contribute to defining tests to execute based on current capability of delivered test hardware and software. * Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on the plans, status, and critical issues. Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner. * Assist with vendor management, and vendor deliveries. * Define test mechanisms to make efficient use of test setups. * Identify, analyze, and remove gaps in test coverage of satellite avionics and payload hardware. * Develop a test strategy that ensures that test coverages meets program goals. * Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing teams on program milestones and unblock technical issues by pulling together the multi-functional technical expertise to resolve the issues. * Set agenda, communicate meeting notes and actions; follow up with responsible owners. * Participate in technical discussions, ask probing questions, and work with the team to pull together scoping, schedules, and solutions to issues. * Drive post-mortem learning and improvements over time. * Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints. PCBA Testing Oversight: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, and quality) to define test requirements for PCBA. Ensure all PCBA tests (functional, in-circuit testing, environmental stress screening, etc.) are executed as per the testing plan. Manage test schedules, reporting, and resource allocation for testing. Track and address any PCBA test failures or anomalies, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective actions. Work closely with suppliers or test labs to ensure testing meets industry and company standards. Maintain accurate test documentation and metrics, including test plans, test results, and failure reports. Box-Level Testing Oversight: Define and manage test protocols for the assembled product (box-level), including system functionality, thermal testing, shock and vibration, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and other regulatory compliance tests. Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for box-level test execution. Monitor test progress, identifying potential risks and bottlenecks, and escalating issues as necessary. Ensure all documentation for box-level testing (test cases, configurations, results) is completed accurately and reviewed. Drive root cause analysis and resolution of any system-level failures during testing. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. A day in the life The role will interface cross-functionally with engineering, program/product management, and production teams to ensure successful testing of flight hardware. About the team You will interface closely with multiple subsystem, software, and test teams, provide technical input and guidance on test design, and support as needed with detailed analysis and test execution. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent. - 5+ years of technical product or program management experience - 4+ years of experience in a technical lead, systems engineer, technical program or project management role with significant experience architecting and integrating HW and SW into a complex system and including leadership of cross-functional teams delivering products on schedule - 7+ years of experience working with hardware, software, test engineering, ground support equipment and/or harness design. - Experience and proficiency with at least one schedule tracking tools such as MS Project, SmartSheet or alternative. Preferred Qualifications - 5+ years of experience working on automated test systems for development or production purposes - 3+ years of experience working on automated manufacturing test systems - 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience - Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules - Experience with high volume manufacturing test methods, concepts and solutions. - Direct experience with test methods and approaches for aerospace systems. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Track record of successfully delivering complete systems (hardware, firmware, software) on time, to scope, with high quality. - Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines. - Maturity, judgment, and proven ability to lead and influence others. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with engineers, business owners, and senior business leaders. - High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. - Experience developing avionics for aerospace applications or systems operating in extreme environments. - Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
