JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for Electrical Engineer to join our System Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs. Your will contribute to the design and deployment of Research and Development SONAR systems. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Support small, interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams, often including external technology partners Perform System and Electrical Engineering roles in circuit design from early prototype work through limited production, including system and circuit levels of performance analysis, qualification, and testing Create System level functional and electrical circuit diagrams, models, and simulations Perform circuit designs for low noise, low power, high efficiency (battery powered) electronics with emphasis on quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance Perform circuit designs for high speed, high power switching power amplifiers and energy conversion / power supply circuits Lead and perform electronic CAD work including responsibilities for overseeing all phases of Schematic and PCB designs, directing BOM management and transfer to fabrication services Develop System level and inter-disciplinary requirements documents, including performance requirements, test and validation plans, and specifications This position can be filled at the advanced or senior professional level, depending on your education and experience. Minimally requires Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline plus 5 years' related experience for the advanced professional level. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level positions. A Masters' Degree is preferred. Required skills/experience areas include: Strong analytical skills, including analysis, simulation and prediction for complex multidisciplinary systems Strong skills and demonstrable experience in low noise and high power electronics, including high efficiency battery power supply and power management designs analog, mixed, and digital signal conditioning and processing Proficiency in analog and mixed circuit design skills required, including low noise small signal amplifiers, filters, signal conditioning and protection circuits, ADCs DACs, CODECs Expert level skills in Embedded hardware design with emphasis on low power microcontrollers, SOCs and CODECs Deep understanding of closed loop circuits and control systems Travel during field testing of deployed systems Preferred skills/experience areas include: Embedded Firmware programming skills highly desirable and a big plus Your working location will be on-site in State College, PA.
