Job Title: Chief Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Estimator to lead the estimating department of our heavy civil construction company. This role will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and submission of competitive, accurate, and timely cost estimates for a wide range of heavy civil construction projects, including but not limited to earthworks, underground utilities, asphalt paving, bridges/structures, and site concrete. The Chief Estimator will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure projects are accurately bid and aligned with scope, schedule, and budget.

Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the estimating process for heavy civil construction projects, from initial bid preparation through to project award. Oversee and review estimates for earthworks, underground utilities, asphalt paving, bridge/structures, site concrete, and other civil scopes of work. Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead based on project plans, specifications, and site conditions. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all bid components are fully understood and priced accurately. Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate project requirements, assess risks, and gather information for accurate cost estimation. Review subcontractor and vendor proposals, ensuring that pricing is competitive and aligned with the project scope and specifications. Prepare and present detailed bid proposals, including pricing breakdowns, assumptions, and risk assessments. Ensure that estimates align with company objectives, and provide strategic input to help secure profitable projects. Monitor industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain competitive and accurate pricing strategies. Mentor and develop junior estimators and staff within the estimating department. Maintain accurate records of bid submissions, estimates, and project history for future reference. Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred). 8+ years of estimating experience in the heavy civil construction industry, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or senior estimator role. Strong knowledge of civil construction processes, including earthworks, underground utilities, asphalt paving, bridges/structures, and site concrete. Expertise in preparing detailed and competitive estimates for large, complex projects. Proficient in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, or similar tools. Solid understanding of construction plans, specifications, and contract documents. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Experience with risk analysis and cost forecasting for large-scale projects. Benefits:
