The opportunity
The EH&S Specialist I is responsible for implementing workplace environmental, safety, and health programs at assigned facilities to help foster a compliant operation and where Zero Harm culture is continuously embraced. This opportunity is based in our Sales Marketing and Distribution Team.
The role Supports implementation and improvement of EH&S programs at one or more distribution facilities in the US. Collaborate with facility operational teams and EH&S staff to implement action plans, processes, and procedures to control EH&S risks and achieve compliance to the Gildan safety and environmental policies, corporate EH&S guidelines, and improvement initiatives. Conducts assessments that identify hazards and reduce risk including but not limited to hazard identification, job safety analysis, risk assessments, pre-startup safety review, PPE, machine guarding, and hazardous energy. Conducts training in all aspects of EH&S to ensure compliance with legal and Gildan requirements and in a manner that positively engages employee behaviors. Collaboratively conducts incident reviews for causes and develop corrective/preventative actions. Coaches all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that that builds and sustains a safety culture consistent with Gildan's values. Conducts or supports industrial hygiene evaluations sufficient to identify hazards, risks, and trends. Participates in or conducts internal audits, compliance assessments, & inspections. Supports safety programs for contractors and construction projects. Maintains EH&S documentation, records, and EH&S management information tools. Develops & implements plans to complete personal objectives that align with organizational objectives. Participates in audits/inspections by external parties such as OSHA, EPA, Property Insurance Carrier, Corporate, etc. Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs. The requirement
University Degree 3-5 Years Relevant Experience Detailed knowledge of operations and procedures to resolve straightforward issues Good understanding of how the other sectors of business interplay and affect the department OR Provides professional services using standard procedure and specific knowledge Identifies and resolves immediate problems affecting team AND/OR Researches and analyzes data from familiar areas to determine appropriate actions Updates or modifies working methods in own role based on defined procedures May be required to exercise judgement in the interpretation of policies and procedures• Supervises and coordinates efficient use of resources Leads operational team members Ensures achievement of results on a short-term basis AND/OR Organizes most aspects of own work according to pre-established deadlines and priorities Works collaboratively with team members to deliver outputs Provides guidance, advice and answers to members of the team Regularly train or act as a resource OR Provides information of a specialized nature and when requested, interpretation through circumscribed research Day-to-day decisions affect the operational and/or sales effectiveness of the team First point of contact for technical input or escalation to resolve immediate issues OR Operates with standardized practices and processes May have a direct impact on the delivery of services to others Typically, supervision of progress and results Decisions and actions taken mostly impact a unique location or unit B.S., Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Chemistry, Engineering; other Physical Sciences will be considered in conjunction with EH&S coursework or certifications. Interfacing with others via audio & video conferencing will be highly encouraged when appropriate. When travel is required, in some cases can be accomplished in day trips. Occasionally, overnight travel is necessary and estimated to occur between 10-20 % of the time. The following are not required but will be considered a plus: Current CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen Trainer Certification OSHA 30-hour NFPA 70E, Confined Space, & Control of Hazardous Energy training Fall Protection Competent Person What's in it for you
