The Salvation Armys Massachusetts Division is hiring for an
Emergency Disaster Services Deputy Director of Operations

Pay Range : $50K-$65K per year QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in emergency management or related field (such as Public Health or Public Policy) required, or equivalent experience in Emergency Management and/or Non-Profit Program Management required Minimum 5 years EDS/Emergency Management Experience Must be 21 years of age or older Must have a valid drivers license and be able to pass a motor vehicle record check Must be able to work on an on-call basis as nature of ministry is emergency based, includes nights and weekends. Hours may be long during disaster events. Must be able to work longer hours when a larger response is needed Ability to complete work independently and autonomously, as well as part of a team Must have excellent interpersonal skills Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have great planning, coordinating, organizational and managerial skills Must be able to effectively deal with public relations and possess good presentation skills especially during high-stress emergency settings Must have a valid drivers license and ability to drive disaster vehicle safely at any time Must have basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office applications Must be able to travel on disaster assignments within and outside of MA when needed. Preferably needs to live near Greater Boston, Mass Bay area or in Eastern MA Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. occasionally. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Coordination and support of an effective Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services delivery system for disaster and crisis needs both in the Greater Boston/Mass Bay area, as well as in support of other events in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Assist with all Divisional preparedness and coordination of Emergency Management (EM) phases of response and recovery efforts, including identification of needs/roles/activities consistent with the strengths of the local and/or Divisional personnel, property, and programs Support coordination of Divisional logistical support in all EM phases including acquisition, inventory, and disposition of all emergency equipment and supplies, warehouse management, management of key vendor relationships, etc. Support EDS Corps with regular maintenance, inspections, and canteen readiness. Receive emergency alerts throughout Division, provide initial contact with Corps, coordinate additional Divisional resources when needed, and shares response involvement with EDS Director Provide coordination, communication, and operational support of MEMA initiated Resource Recovery Centers. Support development of volunteer disaster response teams, primarily those with EDS assets, and supporting interested Corps and Service Extension Units to develop capacity. Establishment and care of relationships with government and other disaster response partners. Serve as a liaison to key agencies and POC for regional MEMA, and immigration and homeless requests. Provide current information, updates, and pictures of EDS responses/activity to support efficient media releases. Assist in developing and maintaining a multi-level training program, including providing basic EDS courses to Division as needed (such as ServSafe Food Handler, CPR/First Aid, Intro to EDS, Keep Safe) In the absence of EDS Director, serve as lead for department, including daily supervisory responsibility of staff and volunteers as assigned. Responsible for reviewing the National Disaster Training Program Volunteer Database and support EDS vols/staff/officers with keeping information current; including providing ID badges as necessary. Support EDS Director with planning, coordination and implementation of regional/state special events and trainings (ex. Boston Marathon and EDS Training Summits) Attend and/or coordinate sharing of information to all MA Division Coordinating Councils re: EDS information, reports, updates, and opportunities Attend trainings, seminars, conferences, and workshops as requested. With approval, deploy to territorial/national/international disasters to support Salvation Army response/recovery efforts. Oversees record keeping of all important EDS activities as instructed to do so Provide information and referral to staff providing direct services to survivors. Serves on Incident Management Team as needed. Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned
Mass Bay/Boston Responsibilities 1. Manage emergency communication, response, and coordination for all disasters/emergency requests in the Mass Bay/Greater Boston area; includes receiving EDS alerts 24/7. 2. Support recruitment, training, coordination, and management of Mass Bay EDS team. 3. Provide direct coordination and support to Mass Bay Corps during any phase of EM where their awareness and/or involvement would be valuable. 4. Participates with Metro Boston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) virtual activations, meetings, exercises as needed. 5. Supervise Boston on call EDS Responder(s) including training, communication, and response support.
