Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Plumbing Section. The selectee serves as an Journeyman level Pipefitter and/or Plumber performing troubleshooting, repair and installing plumbing systems and components in assigned Capitol Complex work sites that include monumental iconic historic buildings with a complex infrastructure on Capitol Hill. Responsibilities Tour of duty for this position is: M-F 6:30AM -3:00PM. (Hours may change due to operational needs) The individual selected for this position will: This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule will include mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends on a regular and recurring basis. Required to obtain a Backflow Preventer certification and required to keep records of all Backflow Preventers serviced/installed. Perform all required testing that is then reported to the DC Water and Sewer Authority (WASA). Pipefitting Projects, Maintenance and Repair: Serves as expert pipefitter and plumber and utilize the (Building Automation System) to troubleshoot, start/stop systems, pumps, motors, verify operating parameters and make adjustments to meet building requirements. Also utilize the BAS system to identify electronic faults in pumps and valves. Utilizes the electronic Building Automation System (BAS) and related technology to install, monitor, diagnose, repair and maintain multifaceted, diverse vendor products as required to sustain the operations of the U.S. Congress. Adjusts electronically controlled Variable Frequency Drives and related Direct Digital Controls utilized on plumbing systems. Install, troubleshoot and replace faulty electronic Direct Digital Control Energy valves. Utilizes Web TMA to create work orders, document labor hours and annotate the nature of the tasks or problems. Utilize Mobile TMA (I Phone) to scan equipment and identify defective parts to expedite procurement of replacement parts. Utilizes BAS to access fountain equipment, identify fault locations and expedite repairs. Performs maintenance repairs on all systems: steam, chilled water, domestic water and heating. Perform maintenance, repair, installation and inspection of steel, copper and Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) life safety sprinkler systems in multi-story, historic buildings. Layout and install steel, copper and CPVC life safety sprinkler systems in high ceilings. Must ensure design and code compliance during installation and inspection of steel, copper and/or CPVC sprinkler systems in new and/or retrofitted construction. Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing high and low pressure steam lines, gas, air vacuum and water distribution systems, sanitary and storm sewers, sprinkler and chilled water systems, and other piping systems such as ventilation hoods, pumps and standard plumbing equipment, such as toilets, sinks, urinals, water heaters, fountains, drinking water systems, eye washes, safety showers, backflow preventers. Performs, brazing, soldering and other hot work processes, such as welding. Environmental Waste Management: Duties assigned, employees may require knowledge of hazardous (e.g. lead paint and solvents), universal (e.g. lamps and batteries and/or non-hazardous (e.g. oil and polychlorinated biphenyl) waste management requirements to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Decides what hazardous material is no longer needed and will be disposed, select containers for waste accumulation, add waste to containers, label containers.
