Sheet Metal Mechanic Leader

Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent Capitol Building, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services and Facility Operations Division, Maintenance Branch, Sheet Metal Section. As Sheet Metal Mechanic Leader, you will run jobs at work sites including overall coordination of the individual craft and laboring efforts related to the building renovations, maintenance and repairs. Responsibilities Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday | 3:30AM -12:00PM Leader Responsibilities: Passes on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group Works along with other workers and sets the pace Demonstrates proper work methods Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained Obtains necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift Maintains current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders to be able to answer questions of other workers) Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been followed Sheet Metal Duties: Plans, lays out and develops templates to construct, assemble, and install irregular items and systems Evaluates damage and/or wear to sheet metal components and systems Disassembles, repairs, fabricates, assembles and installs sheet metal components Uses various measuring tools to measure size, angles and patterns for repair, replacement and/or modification Plans and lays out templates for construction and repair of components for heating, ventilation and air conditioning duct work, kitchen equipment and exhaust hoods and copper roof components Checks system to determine component faults and to identify sheet metal pattern requirements Uses welding, riveting, soldering, mechanical fasteners, forming machines and other tools of the trade to join and assemble components to prevent system leak Repairs or replaces cornices and ornamental copper roofing and light fixtures Works with stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium alloys and honeycomb materials. Uses hand and power tools and machines such as sliproll forming machines, box and pan brakes, crimpers, rotary machines with extra forming rolls and beading machine The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized. Performs other related duties as assigned.
