Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 5 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Job Summary:Under supervision, develops, analyzes, and maintains a variety of GIS and associated data in the City's Geographic Information System; and does related work as required.Scope of Responsibility:Incumbent follows prescribed procedures in performing duties. Working under limited supervision, incumbent performs work requiring some interpretation of data and must make decisions considering objectives. Incumbent must frequently interact with other members of the staff to provide basic information and has occasional interaction requiring detailed procedural explanations or technical responses. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGeographic Information System Digitizes and enters public works asset data from hard copy graphics (i.e., as-built diagrams) and digital sources such as geo-rectified CAD files or survey grade GPS points. Assets include but not limited to water utility features, sanitary sewer utility features storm utility features, irrigation/sprinkler systems, landscaping and mowing areas, pavement markings, snow routes and street sweeping areas, streetlights, traffic signals, and traffic signs.Performs ongoing maintenance and cleanup of datasets in a constant effort to improve data accuracy and integrity. Maintenance includes interpreting and cross-validating information extracted from construction plans and related files, field notes, City personnel, and outside agencies. Validating information involves research in the office and the field upon occasion.Attaches closed-circuit television inspection video/report files to utility layers and enters associated condition scoring into asset management software (Cityworks). Uses video files to populate missing utility data such as pipe characteristics, condition, and the placement of private service lines.Assists in tracking the completion of construction projects by corresponding with staff or consultants to ensure timely receipt of deliverables and subsequent data entry into the City's GIS system.Works with GIS Specialist to develop additional Enterprise applications (e.g., ArcGIS Dashboards, Field Maps, Insights, and Solutions) based on recommendations from the Public Works IT Data Steering committee.Works with GIS Asset Analyst to create new layers for asset management purposes and more tightly integrates existing datasets to the Cityworks software platform.Creates maps and reports from spatial and digital data.Responds to third-party requests for City GIS data deliverables and products. Automates GIS data input and output through programming.Field collection and digitization of Global Positioning System (GPS) data for use with City GIS.Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in GIS, GPS, and related fields.Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications and SkillsRequired Qualifications & Skills:Two years formal training beyond high school in geography/GIS 1 year related work experience in geography/GISORThree (3) years of related work experience in geography/GISANDA valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employmentMust be able to successfully pass a Federal and State criminal history background checkPreferred Qualifications & Skills:Experience using ESRI products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal) and other relevant GIS softwareExperience with ArcGIS On-line and reading civil construction drawings Physical Demands and Working ConditionsWork is primarily in an office environment, with work outdoors as required. Intermittent effort involving lifting of between 5 and 25 pounds is required. Work requires close attention to detail or deadlines frequently (between 45% and 70% of the time). There is intermittent exposure (less than 15% of the time) to a disagreeable element, such as dirt, grease, odor, chemicals, or unpleasant weather conditions. Driving is required occasionally.
