Date Available: August 2025 Purpose: The School Nurse helps students attain an optimum level of physical, social and emotional health by coordinating a comprehensive student health program. Ability and capacity to work closely with the other staff and administration of the school district.
Report to: District/Building Administration
Qualifications:
Full and current RN licensure with one year of experience Practicing experience as a RN Current knowledge of Kansas immunization requirements and other applicable statutes and regulations Current knowledge of youth health-related needs (example: AIDS, human sexuality, communicable diseases Skill in screening for vision, hearing, Scoliosis, head lice, etc. Ability to work with various health agencies and to complete required data reports Be self-directed, while having the ability and capacity to work closely with other staff and administration of the district. Excellent written and oral communication skills
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires prolonged sitting or standing Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials Occasional stooping, bending and reaching Requires some travel Must work indoors and outdoors in noisy and crowded environment
Performance Responsibilities:
Initiate and complete all required data reports in a timely manner, HIPAA and privacy compliant Review all immunization records with follow-up as needed Maintain current knowledge of Kansas health laws, delivery of health services and childhood/youth diseases Complete required screenings including but not limited to vision, hearing, weighing and measuring and follow up with staff/parents regarding health problems Provide first aid for students and staff as needed Oversee the administration of medication within the school buildings Communicate with parents/guardians and staff regarding communicable diseases, follow proper procedures Ability to provide health instruction to groups of students of various ages Serve as a district resource person for blood borne pathogen inservice/procedures Serve as a classroom resource person for health related areas Serve on district improvement/study committees as a health related resource person Report cases of child abuse and neglect Work with staff in providing health related information to students, parents and public Establish a positive working relationship with community health agencies Assist students/families, when requested, in obtaining appropriate health related services Monitor the school environment for safety and sanitation Acquire appropriate health related supplies and monitor security and use Maintain the health related equipment in functional condition Other duties as assigned by building/district administrative staff
