SUMMARY
The Senior Associate Director Annual Fund is responsible for leading the annual fundraising efforts to secure unrestricted gifts for the organization's operating budget. This role plays a critical part in building relationships with donors and cultivating a sustainable donor base through strategies that encourage giving at all levels. The Senior Associate Director Annual Fund will manage all aspects of the annual giving program, including donor stewardship, donor solicitation, and the development of targeted fundraising campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
Annual Fund Strategy Development and Implementation: Develop and execute an annual fund strategy aimed at increasing unrestricted giving and sustaining donor engagement. Set annual giving goals and work with senior leadership to track performance and adjust strategies as needed. Create segmentation strategies to engage donors at various levels (e.g., major donors, mid-level donors, and small gifts). Donor Acquisition and Cultivation:
Identify and cultivate new donors by implementing innovative acquisition strategies, including direct mail, email, online campaigns, and events. Strengthen relationships with current donors by providing personalized communication, recognizing their contributions, and offering stewardship opportunities. Utilize data to track donor behavior and preferences for more effective donor engagement and retention. Work closely with major gift officers to identify donors who have capacity and should be shifted into an MGO's portfolio to be actively managed. Campaign Management:
Lead and manage annual giving campaigns, including peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, and matching gift programs. Work with marketing and communications teams to create impactful messaging and materials that resonate with donors and inspire action. Work with the advancement events team to execute strategic giving events, such as donor luncheons, appreciation events, and online giving days. Support of website language edits and changes to ensure the website is aligned with general CalArts advancement messaging as well as ongoing and periodic campaigns. Donor Stewardship and Recognition:
Develop and implement a comprehensive donor recognition program to acknowledge and thank donors for their support, including gift acknowledgment letters, special recognition events, and donor impact reports. Ensure that donors understand the impact of their contributions on the organization's mission and goals. Data Analysis and Reporting:
Maintain accurate donor records and track donor activity within the donor management system. Regularly report on annual fund performance to senior leadership, including progress toward goals, donor retention rates, and growth in donor giving levels. Use data and analytics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and recommend improvements for future efforts. Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work closely with the advancement team to align the annual fund with overall fundraising priorities and major gift efforts. Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing, communications, and program staff, to ensure consistent messaging and maximize fundraising efforts. Supervisorial:
Supervise and develop one lower to mid-level Giving officer to cultivate and steward a donor portfolio , setting and tracking goal metrics. Supervise and develop one Donor Support coordinator responsible for support of the annual fund program, annual scholarship reports as well as coordination of stewardship activities across the advancement team. Budget Management:
Develop and manage the annual fund budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet fundraising goals. Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective use of funds for donor communications, events, and other related activities. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, preferably in annual giving or donor relations roles. Proven track record of successful campaign management and meeting fundraising targets. Experience with donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge) and understanding of data analytics to drive decision-making. All team members must:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Advancement Division works in a hybrid model, spending a minimum of 2 days per week on campus or at in-person meetings, and the remainder of days working from home. Because the division is responsible for fundraising events, applicants must be available to work additional hours during evenings or weekends, and at peak periods of the year. During certain brief times during the academic calendar, there will be restrictions on vacation approvals to ensure the division can adequately support the fundraising initiatives that align with the Institute's highest priority activities.
