Position Summary:
The Pilot Plant Intern will be an integral part of the Research and Development team, gaining hands-on experience in the operation of pilot plant equipment and processes. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to the development and testing of new products, process optimization, and quality control within a manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals and contribute to various projects while learning about the complexities of pilot plant operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of pilot plant equipment under the guidance of senior staff.
- Participate in the development and testing of new food and beverage products, following established protocols and procedures.
- Conduct quality control tests, analyze data, and assist in troubleshooting process issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results in a detailed and organized manner.
- Contribute to the review and update of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pilot plant operations.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with safety guidelines.
- Participate in team meetings, contribute ideas, and engage in discussions related to pilot plant projects.
- Learn and apply principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards.
- Complete a final project or presentation summarizing the internship experience and key learnings.
Job Qualifications (Minimum Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
- Currently enrolled in a 4 year program, such as Food Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of operations, plant equipment or food processing is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to analyze and present data.
- Enthusiasm for learning, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to take on new challenges.
- Familiarity with food safety and quality standards is a plus, but not required.
