JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing written translation and verbal interpretation from Spanish into English language and vice versa in a court of record in order to ensure that the message is being accurately delivered and understood between citizens and court employees. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Responsibilities:- Provides interpreting and translation services for Spanish speaking defendants, parties, witnesses, and family members who are limited English proficient (LEP).
- Translates documents and related material used in the District and County Courts at Law.
- Provides information to non-English speaking customers or visitors by telephone and in person.
- Provides sight translation, consecutive, and simultaneous interpretation in all court assignments, including but not limited to hearings and trials.
- Follows changes to State and Federal Laws that regulate interpreting and translating services and communicating these changes to all courts.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- High School Diploma/GED or higher degree.
- Candidates must be a Master Licensed Court Interpreter by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) pursuant to Chapter 157 Subchapter C of the Texas Government Code.
- Three years of experience in translation and interpretation.
- Experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of legal, highly technical, and colloquial vocabulary in English and Spanish.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
- Membership in an interpreting/translation professional association is highly desirable.
- County employees should not engage in outside employment that interferes with the performance of their County job, does not create a conflict of interest, or is prohibited by law.
SALARY RANGE: $64,500.80 - $80,724.80 yearly based on qualifications
